National  Conference on Indian Banking System Inaugurated at SDM College

 Mangalore, Jan 7: A two- day UGC sponsored national conference on ‘Indian Banking System: Challenges Ahead’ was inaugurated  at S D M College of Business Mangement, Mangalore, here on Friday, January 7.

Ananthakrishna, chairman, Karnataka Bank delivered the keynote address. B R Bhat, general manager, corporation Bank was the guest of honour. Dr P Chandramohan, vice-chancellor, Yenepoya University presided over the function.

The two- day long deliberation includes four sessions on mergers, acquisition and consolidation of banks by Yogish Acharya, chief manager, Canara Bank, founder’s branch, Mangalore and Prof Ravichandran, vice-principal, Institute of Co-operative Management, Trivandrum, micro financing and infrastructure financing by MM Baheti, principal, NABARD and Prof Chowdary Prasad, TAPMI, Manipal, technology in Banking service by J S Shenoy, DGM, Syndicate Bank and Dr Raghavendra Prakash, Associate Professor, NITK, Surathkal, innovations of new services and product and next generation banking by Satyamurthy, DGM, SBI, Mangalore and Dr Carmelita Goveas, HOD of Commerce, Besant Women’s College, Mangalore. Bankers, academicians and research scholars will also be presenting papers.

Vijay Bhaskar, regional director, RBI, Bangalore will address the gathering in the valedictory function. The objective of the conference is to discuss the challenges faced by the banking sector and find the ways and means of ontinuously ensuring better profitability and productivity which is essential for the growth and viability.

As expected, a large number of delegates from all over the country are participating in the national level conference.
