Konkani Kutam Rome Gathers to Share Christmas, New Year Joy

Rome, Jan 10:  Konkani Kutam, here gathered together to share the festive joy at the Jesuit Generalate here on Sunday January 9.

The event began with the Solemn Eucharistic celebration in Konkani presided over by Fr Felix Lobo, from Karwar diocese.

In his meaningful and captivating homily Fr Lobo highlighted the importance of the feast of the Baptism of Jesus and invited all those gathered to strive to grow in faith and commitment. He stressed that Jesus did not remain just a Baby but grew into adulthood and was baptized as a symbol of the beginning of his public ministry; similarly we too should grow in Jesus by receiving Him and giving Him to others.

Fr Peter Paul and Br Roquin Pinto led the congregation with choir. The traditional Christmas hymns brought back the sweet memories of native place back in Mangalore.

The Mass was followed by a friendly chit-chat. In the beginning all were served with Kuswars and soft drinks. Fr Rocky welcomed the dignitaries.

With the welcoming of the new members of the Konkni Kutam all were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and were invited to feel at home.

Frs Peter Paul and Ralphy Pinto entertained the gathering with their anecdotes and jokes. The occasion also marked the appointment of the new office bearers, namely Fr Rajesh Rosario, Br Tony Crasta,  Susheela Rodrigues, Nancy, and Hilary.

At the end sumptuous Mangalorian style buffet was served. Around seventy Konkany speaking priests, religious and laity were present. Fr Eugine Lobo thanked all, especially the outgoing office bearers and those who provided the food and all those who toiled to organize the event. Fr Peter Paul compered the programme and kept the gathering in high spirits.
