Puttur, Mar 3: The court here has sentenced one of the two thieves who broke open the door latch of the residence of one Mahendra Kumar in Kemminje village, Puttur taluk between March 14 and 6, 2006 and stole jewellery worth Rs 43,000 weighing 50.930 gram from the suitcase in the house.
District crime branch inspector Thilak Chandra had arrested Santhosh and Nagaraj Balegar, the two accused under crime registration No. 24/2006 and deposited the recovered valuables at the Puttur town police station. The then crime branch police sub inspector of Puttur town police station had submitted the charge sheet to the court.
The case was heard under CC No. 864/2014 and the sentence was pronounced on Thursday, March 3 against Nagaraj Balegar (34), a resident of Vidyanagar, Honnakatte, Surathkal. Nagaraj will have to undergo a rigorous imprisonment for five years and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 457 of IPC. He will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
Similarly he has to undergo another four years of imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 4,000 under Section 380 of IPC. He will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of five months if he fails to pay the fine. The accused is under judicial custody in Kalburgi jail at present.
