Mangaluru, Mar 5: A gang of masked men who arrived in a Ritz car intercepted a fish tempo, attacked a fish merchant with sabre and robbed him of two lac rupees in cash. This incident happened at Adamkudru on national highway 66 on Saturday March 5.
Mustafa (47), a fish merchant residing in Hyderabli road,Ullal Mukkacheri, suffered serious injuries in the attack. The attack happened at about 6.15 am today at Adamkudru near Netravati Bridge, Ullal.
Mustafa, as usual, was on his way to Mangaluru dock in his Tata Ace tempo to bring fish when he came under attack. A person named Moosa from Mastikatte was with Mustafa. When the tempo approached Adamkudru, a red colour Ritz car which came from behind, blocked the van in which Mustafa was travelling. Three masked men were seated inside. It is said that Mustafa questioned them about continuous honking and got down. Then, two among them got down and took the cash kept in the dash board. The men then pointed the sabre at the neck of Mustafa and forcibly took away the bag. Mustafa, who resisted the robbers, held the sharp edges of the sabre with both his hands. When the robbers pulled the sabre away, Mustafa suffered serious injuries to both his hands.
A person going that way on his scooter immediately admitted Mustafa into Netaji Hospital Thokottu, in a show of humanitarian values.
Mustafa said that Rs 2.05 lac cash was taken away by the robbers. He is being treated in a private hospital in Thokottu. A police team led by assistant commissioner of police, Dinakar Shetty, visited the spot and verified CCTV footage. A case has been registered in Kankanady town police station.
Mustafa has been conducting fish business at Kallapu for the last several years. Normally he handles lacs of rupees cash but today the amount in his possession was relatively less. Those who knew him well, it is guessed, were behind this robbery,
The police are yet to verify and confirm about the robbery angle. It is said that the attackers were conversing in Beary language. There are rumours of suspected enmity behind the incident.
