Mangalore: MCF Power Plant Completes 25 Years

Mangalore, Jan 14: Wartsila India has announced that the power plant at Mangalore Chemical & Fertilizers Ltd (MCF) in Karnataka has completed 25 years of successful and continues operations. The power plant has eight Wartsila 18V32 engines with a total generation capacity of 48MW, of these two engines have completed about 150000 running hours, three machines about 140000 hours and another three machines about 100000 hours.

This is an important milestone for both MCF and Wartsila India as it signifies a long-standing successful partnership between the two companies. At a felicitation event organized today at plant’s site, Wartsila India representatives acknowledged the support of MCF towards accomplishing this outstanding feat.

Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Anand, managing director, MCF remarked, "We have a strong energy management policy and we remain committed to the continues improvements in our operations. We are very happy that our power plant has completed 25 years of operations producing 5.3 billion units of electricity so far and we believe that we will achieve greater milestones in the future through our long-standing partnership with Wartsila. They have supported us throughout our association and have assisted us in achieving our business objectives through their committed and impeccable service. We are able to achieve high standards of power plant reliability and availability factor by adopting best maintenance practices through the support of Wartsila. With the availability of uninterrupted captive power, our fertilizer plants have achieved best standards in terms of on- stream factor and energy consumption."

The Wartaila DG Power Plant was commissioned in 1985 to overcome the frequent interruptions in power supply, which were causing equipment failure and wastage of energy during shut-down and start-up of the plant within the factory. The Wartsila power plant has ensured smooth operation of the fertilizer plant through the steady supply of quality captive power. This power plant meets the total power needs of the entire factory.
