Udupi: Choornotsava Celebrated with Traditional Fervour

Udupi, Jan 16: ‘Choornotsava’, which is held customarily on the next day of Makara Sankramana each year in the temple town, was celebrated with devotional fervour on Saturday January 15.


On this occasion, car festival was held. The Utsava Murtys of Lord Srikrishna and Mukhyaprana were seated in the chariots, and pulled through the car street here in the morning. Thousands of devotees participated in the festivities.

‘Avabhrutotsava (bathing)’ of the idols was conducted at Madhwa Sarovar of the Mutt.

Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt, Sri Vidyavallabhatreertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Mutt, Sri Vidyasagarateertha Swamiji of Krishnapur Mutt, Sri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji of Sode Mutt, Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji of Palimar Mutt, and junior Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji, took part in the celebrations.
