Mangalore, Jan 15: The T/20 cricket tournament organized by Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association (DKCA) at Nehru Maidan was inaugurated on Saturday January 15.

Bangalore based Mangalorean entrepreneur Dayanada Pai's Century Group is sponsoring the tournament. Dr Srikanth Rai, president of DKCA inaugurated the tournament by unveiling the T20 logo. Speaking on the occasion he called upon the players to play the game with utmost sportive spirit inorder to uphold the status of cricket and wished all success for the event.
 
Venugopal Kaikamba, secretary, tournament committee of DKCA, Jigar Vador, sales manager, Big Fm 92.7, Prakash Samaga, correspondent, Daijiworld.com and Balakrishna Pai, manager, DKCA among others were present.
 
The first match was between NITK Surathkal and Govindas Surathkal.  As many as 30 teams will participate in the tournament which will conclude on February 5.

    Sad to see the plight of Nehru Maidan. It has gone from bad to worse. If Cricketers from Mangalore have to play at the national level, then the basic things such as a turf pitch and a grass field is a must. Shocked to see the ground pictures after 2 decades and still the same....World has changed in these 2 decades, buildings, shopping malls have sprung up in Mangalore...nothing has been done for sports and the infrastructure. Same old story, this will continue forever....SAD!

    good to see daijiworld taking intrest in the local tournaments.... hats off to ur work... keep the good work going... there will be lots of fan following .... there r lots of good players but no recognision.... hope they get it through this....
