Wake up to Reality: How Captured Sex Videos are Destroying Lives

Wake up to Reality: How Captured Sex Videos are Destroying Lives
Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jan 16: A menace, not so new in its origin but absolutely fatal, is on the prowl for some years now and has been destroying the lives of tens of youngsters, especially girls and their families. We are talking about videos containing explicit sex scenes that are being circulated with impunity in the last few years, about which the policemen and intelligence agencies seem to have done little.

In Indian society, social stigma scare prevents girls from taking up cudgels against the perpetrators of their character assassination. It appears that even in cases where the guilty have been found, the parents of the girls try to let them go scot-free by just accepting an apology, because of the fear of adverse publicity, which can ruin the future of their daughters. There appears to be no hope for girls in such condition, in a country where honour killing is the order of the day, and virginity and chastity are expected of women alone.

What can a girl, hounded by pervert minds, whose hunger for raw sex and misguided adventurism encourages them to use technology to spoil the names of girls, do? Apart from videos captured without their knowledge, there are those which are taken with the full consent of the girls, who are naive enough to trust their 'boyfriends' who are the real culprits in most cases. Many a time we come across incidents where the man exploits the woman in the name of 'love' only to blackmail her later. In such cases some of the blame lies on the girl too for allowing the man to take her video in the first place, notwithstanding his 'promises.'

The victims of such videos naturally feel helpless in a society where are people are too ready to doubt the character of good-looking girls. The girls can do little else other than watch in exasperation as their character is dragged to the street, and doctored videos are spread out in public like a piece of meat thrown to a pack of wild dogs.

The situation gets worse when the girl is enticed into it with money. Especially in cases where the girl is left to tend for herself for whatever reason, the lure of money proves to be an effective bait. With little care for her future and the consequence, the girl lets herself become a victim of sleaze videos in return for a few bucks. By the time she realises her mistake, it is too late and many a time her life ends in tragedy.

Many lives are lost by way of suicides, futures get trampled upon, minds wither, people suffer in silence, character gets corrupted, and families get shifted to unknown places because of the act of some criminal minds. But those who are responsible for these devastating changes go unscathed. This crime is much more serious than other crimes, because not only the social status of families but even the future of girls is at stake.

Why do youngsters, particularly college students, engage in spreading malaise against their college mates? Perhaps their families have failed to keep an eye on their activities and have close relationship with them. But one thing is sure. The fact that more videos get circulated in this fashion, gives a clue that the culprits get encouraged because of the fact that those who have done these acts in the past, have gone unpunished. Given the technology in mobile handsets these days, it has become extremely easy to capture good resolution videos even without the knowledge of the victim, and to circulate them using Bluetooth, MMS and what not.

It is for ladies from all fields to come to the rescue of their sisters, and to put in relentless efforts to unmask the faces behind these misdirected escapades, and encourage girls who openly defy the criminals. Only when the future of the culprits becomes worse than that of their victims, can one hope such things to come to an end. Policemen, intelligence agencies and other government departments need to work in close liaison with women welfare department, to save girls from this torture. The same technology that has helped criminals to perpetrate crimes against girls should be used to nail them. Heads of educational institutions, where such activities are witnessed often, should have an intelligence network within their colleges, and student gatherings should be utilized to awaken the conscience of the students.

Kudos to Shruti, a first year degree student of St Philomena College, Puttur, who openly came out to clear her name from controversy regarding  a video that is being attributed to her. It is heartening to note that Vishwa Hindu Parishat has come to her support. If more organizations jump into the bandwagon and pledge themselves towards weeding out such anti-social activities, we can hope for a better future for such victims. Let us take this incident as a clarion call for educating youngsters in the families that such videos do not just give them temporary sadistic pleasure, but they also ruin the future of girls and their families. More girls should stand up and protest against this sleaze. They need not be patient, they should be vocal. They should not hesitate in getting help from organizations and policemen, and they should not rest until those who play with their character become the subjects of sufferings.

Girls must be careful, nothing bad in doing friendship, but don’t allow to touch and don’t allow a Video clip even a snap. Boys normally like to do friendship romance but never like to marry a girl who had friendship with another boy. During marriage every boy wants virgin girls. They forget the fact that they themselves had spoiled the girl.
Also there are girls who play with feelings of good boys, they do friendship gives false promises of marriage, later if a nice proposal comes from the parents, and they will look for well settled boy with house good job and vehicle and cheats the young boy who has just finished his studies.

I see a same intent behind corruption and this scandal. There is some element of insincerity in each individual and a small part of our wisdom does tell us that what action is wrong before we do something. It's only that we have developed the habit of letting this insincerity beyond us into the open and not heeding our wisdom that is responsible for such misdeeds. Our society really needs to wake up and treat this malaise already at the early age.

AS LONG AS YOUNG GIRLS ARE DEPICTED AS SEX OBJECTS IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA (FILM, TELEVISION, INTERNET AND PRINT MEDIA) THE BOYS ARE GOING TO THINK IT IS OK, TO PUSH THE LIMIT A LITTLE FURTHER AND MAKE VIDEOS OF THE INTIMATE SCENES WITH THEIR SO CALLED "GIRLFRIENDS".

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE STRONG FAMILY VALUES A GIRL HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP WITH, AND THE FEAR OF GOD INSTILLED IN HER FROM HER CHILDHOOD. IF A GIRL HAS BEEN TAUGHT ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF MODESTY, AND PRESERVING HER VIRGINITY, UNTIL IT IS TIME FOR HER MARRIAGE (NO MATTER WHAT), SUCH THINGS CAN BE MINIMIZED. I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS A FOOLPROOF SYSTEM, BUT AT LEAST IT MIGHT CONTROL FEMALE SUICIDES, DEPRESSION ETC. WHEN SUCH POOR, INNOCENT WOMEN GET CAUGHT IN A WEB OF BETRAYAL, AND DOUBLE-CROSSING BY THEIR SO CALLED "BOYFRIENDS" WHO MANIPULATE THESE YOUNG WOMEN FROM GOOD MIDDLE CLASS BACKGROUNDS, FOR THEIR OWN CARNAL DESIRES.

I think male bashing has become fashion now a days and this article is no exception of that!!. Common , we live in 21 st century everything is recorded and videographed. But to put blame on 'boy friends 'for that is a kind of stereotype. Problem starts when someone upload this videos on social networking sites and circulates as mms. I feel there should be proper cyber laws for that .

We should accept this reality that
, these videos expose hyppocrate society . We talk about liberation of sex (specially females)and make big fuss about these videos once it get circulated. Both are end results of modern society and accept it and stop living in denial.

And also lot of females make misuse of this videos to get certain beneficts from court. and legal system now a days is female centric....Enough of this !!!

I liked this article..... there is a mention about ... 'not withstanding the promises'. tell me how many incidents take place in our community day to day. Why are people young people and older but specially young and mostly girls not being sensible in their own actions???? Why blame others for something they do not care or hesitate to do themselves? Hormones racing eh? In Indian families we are so well looked after and cared for, protected, morals taught at home and our religious teachings specially I am talking about if Catholics we have the Catechism (Dotorn) and in spite of all this our younger generation try sex as an adventure without thinking of its consequences. I would say some people just don't give a damn whatsoever will happen after. The result is misuse of technology for the wrong reasons. WAKE UP PARENTS! BE CAUTIOUS OF UR CHILDREN B'COS (I am a mother too) I THINK WE HAVE TO TAKE EXTRA CARE OF OUR CHILDREN AND GIVE THEM THE AWARENESS AT HOMES REGARDING SEXUAL ADVENTURES OR MISUSE OF SEX AND ALSO TO TELL THEM ABOUT SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES. PARENTS SHOULD NOT BE ASHAMED TO TELL CHILDREN ABOUT THESE THINGS. IT'S VITAL.Never too late.

No one is to the point. Only solution to this problem is: girls please never get involved in any sexual activity before marriage. No one can do any harm to you. That is it.

This article reminds of the incident happened in the yr 2005 with my best friend. She was very smart & well known in her area. But some of the culprits with an intention to spoil her name had manipulated sex video clip of someone else and circulated to all by putting her name on it. The girl in the video was resembling her. But when the girl's family came to know about it they were strong enough to take immediate action. The leaders of the society got involved in this matter. Complaint was registered agaiast the suspects at the police station. Finally the police succeeded in finding out the culprit. He confessed his crime stating that he wanted to take revenge on her family because he thinks girl's mother an active member in the church was responsible for the transfer of his mother who was a teacher at the church school. He was made to sign a bond at the station stating "He will be held responsible if any such incidents happen to that girl in future". He was made to apologise in front of the whole community. He was a teenage so the girl's family let him free giving him a warning.
Today my friend is married & settled in US and her husband knows about the incident. I just want to tell everyone that if you are right then there is nothing to fear about. In today's society where girl & boy are considreed equal, all have the right to live happily. Girls needs to be more careful for their own safety. We girls need to be strong and ready to fight for our rights. Take care Girls

This evil should be dealt with due ruthlessness. It affects the whole society irrespective of the faiths. So need of the hour is to ensure that culprits are punished in such a way that nobody dare to commit such a crime.

What Felix F. is speaking about is absolutely correct. Girls and women have become tools of entertainment. Look at our media and internet. Is there there courage and goodwill to make laws against exploiting and using women for entertainment? I suppose, women will be against any such move as they themselves advocate exposure and playing with their bodies in the name of liberty and equality. Real revolution can come only if women become an united force to stop using girls and women for entertainment and commercial purpose. I would say, it is women and women only can take the first step against exploitation of girls and women.

This is not confined to Mangalore alone, but it is a world problem, And, what is more surprising is that, it happens in Muslim countries as well, inspite of the laws being very strict, on the offenders.

In a survey on internet browsing, it was found, that maximum time spent on internet, is, browing pornographic sites. And it is not confined only to uneducated or poor, but educated and well to do as well.

In my personal opinion it is the Male species (dont deserve to call them humans) which has become corrupt, mainly due to financial gains, and destroying the lives of female species (who become corrupt) dreaming of riches beliving the tempting offers from the Male.

Good article, My request for all the parents, Please check the contents of the mobile phone of your young ones, its likely to have sex related pictures and Videos,or similar contents,Do not think the children are innocent, they have fast working brains and often these memory cards or USB drives are renamed or password protected,According to the intelligence survey done last year we believe about 60 to 70 percent of the children and adults have sex related contents in the Mobile phones and hard drives and USB pen drives.SO beware folks. One more Advice, please be careful while sending your child for tut ions or extra classes or friends houses,in the name of visits and party or something, check your self again and again to make sure your child is safe and secure. Do not go by the sweet faces and innocent looks. Its better to be safe than to ruin the future tomorrow. As parents we watch T,V or gossip..how much time do we invest in children? Sit with your children peacefully and explain the hidden dangers of cameras and media used and all the people you meet are not all the nice, Please take time to study the dangers and create awareness among parents and children and make this world a better place for our generation !

Now mobile phones with camera and high zooming facilities it is very easy for anyone to create such clips.Students should be made aware of such anti-social activities. At least police and security person ell should keep an eye on public places where such things happen. There is also another issue of fixing hidden camera in wash rooms and dress trial rooms.Such places should be investigated by the authorities.Specially in malls and showrooms. We are in a country where everyone speaks of respecting women but when it comes to such things we blame women.
