Humbly accept the people's verdict: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Mar 10 (IANS): After the Congress' dismal performance in the Assembly elections in five states, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said he accepted the people's verdict and congratulated the winning parties.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted in the afternoon: "Humbly accept the people's verdict. Best wishes to those who have won the mandate. My gratitude to all Congress workers and volunteers for their hard work and dedication. We will learn from this and keep working for the interests of the people of India."

Despite Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi putting in their best efforts, the Congress was wiped out in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, failed to wrest power in Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. The party failed to beat the BJP, which retained power despite the anti-incumbency factor.

The Congress headquarters wore a deserted look as celebrations erupted at the BJP headquarters in the national capital after the trends indicated a thumping victory for the saffron party in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

BJP's party activists could be seen dancing, bursting crackers and congratulating each other.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J.P. Nadda are likely to reach the party headquarters late in the evening and thank the people.

Congress has become a failure. Please step down for the sake of India. Vote must not be split. Let AAP take the lead in 2023. Or put some charismatic leader in charge.

For how long Rahul? . You say this after every election debacle and then you and your Sis vanish for 5 years. This is not acceptable anymore. Why dont you learn it from your opponent Smriti Irani , ? Despite her defeat in 2014, she stood ground and worked hard in her constituency to wrest the seat from you. She succeeded in 2019. This should be the spirit and the game plan. Coming back after 5 long years in a car and waving at the crowd , does not work any more . Unfortunately , unlike the past its not 'who you are?' any more. Its 'what you have done?'. One cannot take the voters for granted.
