Bangalore : Guv Presents Nadoja Award to Veerendra Heggade, PB Srinivas

Bangalore, Jan 19 (DHNS): Governor H R Bhardwaj presented the Nadoja award instituted by Hampi University to Dharmadhikari of Dharmastala D Veerendra Heggade and popular playback singer P B Srinivas.

The university honours experts from various fields with the award in place of honorary doctorate. The programme was organised at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday as both the recipients could not attend the convocation held in Hampi last month.

Speaking on the occasion, Heggade said Kannada manuscripts of historical significance had remained in the possession of various temples and mutts.

The manuscripts should be subjected to a detailed study. Similarly, many historical monuments across the State should be conserved. Dharmasthala Manjunatha Trust had renovated 125 such structures with help from the government and donors, he said.

Srinivas, on receiving the honour, recited a song that he penned eulogising Kannada thespian Rajkumar. He said he could become popular in Karnataka because of the support and encouragement of Rajkumar.
