National Conference Stresses on Role of Higher Education in Entrepreneurship Development

Mangalore, Jan 19: The department of MBA (IB), University College and department of business administration, Mangalore University jointly conducted a two-day national conference on “Role of Higher Education in Entrepreneurship Development in India” in Ravindra Kala Bhavana, University College here on Saturday January 19 at 10 am.
The programme began by invoking God’s blessings with a prayer song by Manasa and others. Later, Dr H R Laxminarayana Bhatta, principal welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests to the audience. Prof Mustiary Begum, convener, national conference and chairperson, department of business administration introduced the theme of the conference.
P Jayaram Bhat, MD, Karnataka Bank Ltd inaugurated the conference and in his address he said that the conference will surely help to develop entrepreneurship skills among students. Three components such as attitude, culture and environment should come together to support entrepreneurship in any nation, he added.
Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, vice chancellor, Mangalore University, presided over the programme. In his presidential address he said that there has to be a straight path to connect education, employment and entrepreneurship. Pointing out that only 12% of our population have access to higher education, he said that priority should be given to provide quality education to achieve socio-economic development of the nation, he said.
Skill-based education system in primary and secondary level school will help children to be exposed to industry, he added. He noted that 50% high school children have no access to laboratory which has caused great disadvantage to our nation. He called upon to create graduates who are employable.
Prof Mathew J Manimala of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore delivered the keynote address. He stated that entrepreneurs are keen observers and the theories on entrepreneurship are shrouded in myth.
As many as 115 teachers (from various parts of the country especially from across the state) and 25 PG students registered for the conference. Dr Uday Kumar M A, organizing secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
Meena S K, associate professor and head of the department of commerce compered the programme. The valedictory of the conference will be held on Thursday January 20.
