Mangaluru, March 15: It has finally been decided to shift the controversial Surathkal toll gate inside NMPT. The decision was taken in a meeting of a delegation consisting of Members of Parliament under the leadership of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel with union minister of surface transport and highways Nitin Gadkari at his office in New Delhi on Tuesday, March 15.
The MP said that discussions over the shifting or merger of the toll gate were discussed in the meeting. The minister has also directed that the toll be collected only from vehicles arriving inside and going out of NMPT.
The minister has also ordered the upgradation and conversion of Mani-Sampaje-Madikeri road into a four-lane highway from Mani to Sampaje.
The delegation led by Kateel had called on Nitin Gadkari at Transport Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday and had detailed discussions over the various road projects in Karnataka apart from the Suratkal toll issue.
State minister of education B C Nagesh, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha, Kolar MP Muniswamy, National Highway Authority member R K Pande, Additional Secretary Go Sahel and National Highway Toll Division’s Mahaveer Singh were present at the meeting.
