Mangaluru, Mar 16: The fourth judicial district court has sentenced Aditya Rao to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped on him a fine of Rs 10,000 in the airport bomb planting case.
The court has also ordered five years of imprisonment under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act 1908, along with Rs 10, 000 fine failing to pay which Aditya will have to undergo six more months of simple imprisonment. His 20 years sentence with a fine of Rs 10, 000 has been pronounced under Section 16 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967. On failing to pay the fine he will be sentenced to six additional months of simple imprisonment.
Both the punishments will run concurrently.
It may be recalled that Aditya Rao had kept a bag containing a bomb near the ticket counter of the airport terminal building on January 20, 2020, and fled in an auto-rickshaw. The experts had found explosive materials in the bag after which it was carried and diffused in an isolated area. Aditya had later surrendered at the office of the state director-general of police in Bengaluru.
