Udupi, Mar 17: MLA Raghupathi Bhat vehemently demanded stern action against those who wear hijab and "create unrest at premises of the schools or colleges in the state Assembly on Thursday, March 17. He also requested that, the government should reconduct examination for such Muslim community students who are not able to attend the same due to the Hijab issue.
"The court has given a clear verdict on the Hijab controversy. Before this, an interim order was passed. Again it has created a lot of confusion among students. Practical exams, preparatory exams have already been conducted in many colleges. Because of the interim order, they are not able to write examinations. I would request the ministers to conduct special examinations for them in accordance with the High court verdict for those ready to sit without wearing hijab in the classrooms, " said Bhat.
Supporting MLA Raghupathi Bhat, former chief minister Jagadish Shettar said, “The Muslim students and organizations are disrespecting the judiciary by criticizing the verdict. If it continues like this, it may lead to anarchy. There will be no end to these meaningless controversies. The government has to take action against those protestors. Either they should obey the court verdict or appeal to the Supreme Court for justice. Protesting or calling a bandh is not right."
State Law minister Madhuswamy, reacting to Bhat said, “There are Constitutional obligations to reconduct exams. If the court has given any order on this, we will follow accordingly. The same situation was created two or three times in the state. The government of Karnataka is bound to implement the court decision, until the next order comes. If the students are not following the court order, then the government should think about it. It can be considered defiance of court order. The government is not ready to schedule special exams for those Muslim girls. It is difficult. Because the Court has given a clear decision and they have to obey. It is not easy to frame a question paper to conduct exams whenever they ask for it. In some cases it is exempted."
