Puttur: Gaur, calf lose lives after train knocks them down

Puttur, Mar 18: In an incident which happened near Gadipila in Narimogaru village in the taluk on Thursday March 17, a gaur and a calf lost their lives after they were hit by a moving train.

These gaurs had come out of the forests seeking fodder from the agricultural farms in the village. They were walking on the railway tracks to reach their destination inside the wild. It is guessed that during this time, a train would have rammed into them, killing them instantly.

Assistant conservator of forests, Cariappa, Puttur range forest officer Kiran, Narimogaru deputy range forest officer Kumaraswamy, Puttur deputy range forest officer Shivananda Acharya, forest guard Satyan D G and Deepak visited the spot. Post-mortem of the deceased animals was conducted on the spot.
