Bandh turns violent, 29 buses burnt across the State

Bangalore, Jan 22 (DHNS): Protesters torched public property as the bandh called by BJP government to protest the Governor’s sanction to prosecute Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa turned violent.

Twenty nine government buses have been burnt so far in Bangalore, Hasan, Tumkur and Davanagere district. Jayanagar, Electronioc city and K R Puram are among the worst hit ares in Bangalore.

Miscreants have been reportedly targeting bus depots in the city and pelting them with stones. Police Commissioner has enforced section 144 prohibitory order in Bangalore for the next 48 hours. Governor Bharadwaj has appealed for peace.

On Friday, Government agencies said they were adopting a cautiious approach
to the state-sponsored bundh called on Saturday.

The Education department has left it to the schools to remain open or closed, depending on the situation. Bangalore University, however, remains shut on third Saturdays.

Primary Education minister Visweswara Hegde Kageri said the local officials can decide on allowing schools to function. He said the protest will be peaceful unless the Opposition parties try to prove it otherwise.

Public transport

The daily commuters may not face any problem if the bundh remains peaceful. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation and the auto unions have decided to ply vehicles.

“All BMTC buses will operate as usual as we foresee a peaceful protest. A suitable decision will be taken if a situation demanding withdrawal of vehicles arises,” BMTC chief traffic officer Vishwanath told Deccan Herald.

Autos too will be on the roads unless faced with an adverse situation.

The Old Madras road was blocked for over two hours near the tin factory with the BJP workers staging a protest against the Governor’s decision. The workers also burnt a Governor’s effigy.

The protest delayed the passage of an ambulance, which was allowed with the intervention of the police.

Police on alert

The police have not taken any chance with security measures. The Police Department has been put on high alert. Thirty platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and 18,000 policemen will be on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents on the bundh day, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said.

Forces have also been drawn from the City Armed Reserve, District Armed reserve and the Rapid Action Force (RAF). Bidari said all measures necessary to maintain law and order have been taken. The police stations have been asked to keep strict vigil in sensitive areas.

With the BJP workers taking to the streets on Friday night itself, the DG and IGP Ajai Kumar Singh has directed the police to be prepared to face any eventuality.

Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Suneel Kumar said all the stations have been alerted and the forces were ready to meet any eventuality. However we are expecting it to be peaceful,” he said.

The Superintendents of Police at the district level will monitor the situation with the assistance of District Armed Reserve and Karnataka State Reserve Police.

Krishnamurthy Hoskote, DySP, Huvinahadagli told Deccan Herald that the school and colleges will be closed and there will not be any movement of buses. Five hundred policemen and a KSRP unit have been pressed into service. In Dharwad, 800 policemen have ben deployed in addition to KSRP and DAR personnel.

    The Bundh was not conducted
peacefully, but with all the heat
    of burning and destruction. The
    street rowdies of Bundh didn't
    discriminate anybody whether
the bus was owned by a BJP or
Congress party member. Who is going to pay for the lost? How many people lost their livelyhood
    and investments?

The CM of Karnataka has totally
lost his mind and out of control.
How in the world, he could instigate a Bundh of his own
State to create more damage and
discord? Only God knows, he is
going to be answerable to many
of his misdeeds in the days ahead
    which is completely open before
    God.

Bandh is successful and enormous damage has been incurred and the Goondas have utilised the opporunity very nicely. The entire losses can be borne by the tax payers? BJP Government has done a wonderful job and the Drama is commendable. The political chaos will go on and people of Karnataka will be prosperous. Jai Ho

It is surprising to all of us .The State ruling party (BJP)should restore the law & order in the state,(In other words Goverment itself calling for the bandh and damaging the public property and causing inconvient to the public. Some people got see the doctors in the hospital and some has to travel to attend some wedding and funerals at the distance places. If such distubances occures how can the people go out of their houses. Where Goverment has to give protection to the public. Government party itself is involved in destablizing the peace. What sought of leaders we choose to rule us. Istead choosing the good leaders we brought the wild beasts to devour the soceity. When certain things are gone wrong there should be correction and enquary. If there is anything hidden it should be brought to the justice.CM says he has done nothing wrong, then why should he get fear.I wonder why should religous leaders interfere in the politics. When the religion enters in to the politics there will be a blunders and misguidence. At least now our (we)people will open their (our) eyes before choosing our leaders. May God save Karnataka state.

    Dishonorable honorable
One decision of honorable governor of Karnataka has caused political stir in state . Honorable accorded sanction to prosecute CM Yedurappa on the application filed by two advocates. Strange decision provided opportunity to BJP to dishonor Governor by way of showing placard , shouting slogan , Governor is agent of Congress , recall Governor. Perhaps congress party in whole has lost balance , Man mohan is not inclined to reveal name of those who has stashed black money in foreign bank and on another side one Mr. Bhardwaj Honorable Governor , has surpassed the limit . Under the provision of section 197 Cr.pc, sanction is required to prosecute a Judge or public servant if the offence is committed during the discharge of official duty. Under this provision , court has been barred to take cognizance without sanction. . But what implied in this legal provision has been completely overlooked by the Honorable. First, the act complained and official duty must be reasonably connected. Now question arise, who will see connection is reasonably established? Another question, whether any complaint before a magistrate / court has been filed and court has asked the Honorable to grant sanction? Dear Honorable why you lost patience? Did you conduct any preliminary enquiry to verify the connection between offence and official duty? Whether you have jurisdiction to try a case? To whom and in

Here is a foolish govt. which itself calls for a bandh and allowing public to burn public property. High court should take serious note of it and all losses should born by BJP Party. Our Karnataka public is 10 yrs behind in politics compared Uttar Paradesh n kerala, Tamilnadu. Yeddy knows its end of road for BJP in Karnataka and is now busy in looting what ever he can, even his cabinet ministers are doing the same. We havent seen such a bad n corrupt govt since Independence.

Governor should order the amount of lost wages to Citizens, Estimate of the damage to public & private property, expenses related to providing security, low and order related to bandh and send a bill to BJP or the persons who ordered the bandh. unless the bill is paid in full the Election commission should not allow BJP or the persons called the bandh to contest next elections. This should be done to any one who is responsable for calling bandh.
