Chidambaram backs Bhardwaj on Yeddyurappa's prosecution

New Delhi, Jan 22 (IANS) Home Minister P. Chidambaram Saturday supported Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj's decision to allow the filing of criminal cases and prosecute Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on corruption charges.

The home minister stated that the central government had taken note of the developments in Karnataka and said it was not a unique case when a governor had sanctioned a chief minister's prosecution.

"It is not the first time that a governor has given his sanction to prosecute a chief minister or a minister. The law in this respect is clear and well-settled," Chidambaram said in a statement.
