Kasargod, Mar 19: A village officer and a staff were caught red-handed by the sleuths of vigilance after they allegedly accepted a bribe and a liquor bottle to provide land record to an applicant in Nettanige here on Saturday March 19.
The arrested are Nettanige gram panchayat village officer SL Soni and staff Shivaprasad.
The team of Kasargod DySP KV Venugopal of vigilance and his team has nabbed the accused.
A resident of Adoor had filed an application to the gram panchayat to obtain land records for the construction of a house. After demolishing a shed, the applicant had filed an application for permit.
When the applicant contacted the village officer, he asked him to come after 25 days. When the complainant said that he needs the record at the earliest, they demanded Rs 2,000 bribe and a bottle of liquor. In this regard, the applicant had filed a complaint with the vigilance department. The officials of the vigilance caught the accused red-handed, while they were accepting the bribe and liquor bottle on Saturday evening.
