Puttur: Uppinangady PU girl students agree to attend college without Hijabs

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Mar 21: The second PU girl students of the government PU college at Uppinangady in the taluk, who had stuck to the stand that they would attend classes only with the HIjabs and were insistent on being allowed into the college with their Hijabs, have climbed down from their stated stand. Even though they continued to boycott the classes on Saturday, it is learnt that they have agreed to follow the uniform rules of the college and attend the classes from Monday March 21 onwards.

These students had opposed the stand of the college administration that in tune with the order of the high court, the students enter their classes with HIjabs. These girl students, with the support of other students who supported the stand, had boycotted classes and also the examinations. The college administration, which was under pressure from the students, solidly withstood the pressure and clarified that the court judgement would not be violated.

Some leaders talked to the students as their education is facing the risk of getting hampered if they continue with their boycott. These leaders reportedly succeeded in convincing the students to follow the rules. Working president of the college development and monitoring committee, Suresh Atramajalu, stated that as per information received, these girl students have agreed to follow the rules currently in force.

I was having a tea break and was witnessing first hand. I thought they were thronging to collect hall ticket or something from the counter near the restroom, which I found strange. But it was students and students only. If what actually happened there was as described in the article, I am proud of our people that for once they found a way to handle issues without making a ruckus and in a mature way.

My guess is the ones who instigated the protests were BJP agents. Due to this issue , BJP won the recent elections 4-0 and Congress was wiped out. It also acted as a Solid base for BJP to canvass in the 2023 state elections.

In Tamil Nadu, they passed a law to protect interests of people wearing Dhoti (Veshti) because high end private establishments and clubs were not allowing people wearing them inside. There was no constitutional protection available as private establishments were within their rights to ban dhoti. So, TN had to pass special law under the constitution to allow Dhoti . All political parties supported this law. So going by the same logic, state governments will have to pass a special law to allow Hijab in educational institutions. Now, which state government in India (including Congress, AAP, DMK. BJD, MVA,TMC) will have the guts to pass such a law ? This will call out the hypocrisy of all political parties. Rajiv Gandhi government passed a law to nullify Shah Bano judgement as they had brute majority in the Parliament. Now, no one can think of. They take shelter under the weak argument that wearing Hijab is already allowed under the Constitution without proving Hijab to be essential to religion. I am very confident SC will throw this back to legislature to pass a special law. Who will bell the cat is the question ?

Vishal: Don't compare oranges with apples. Dhotis and sarees are standard everyone's dress until modern times, even Christians wore them - now they wear western pants and shirts. Therw is a time and place for appropriate dresses. Dress code is important , otherwise anyone with even g-string (kashti) will go to hotels and churches and mosques. These girls have realized that sticking to their guns will take them nowhere if they wish to have education. Flimsy hijab excuses were blown out of all proportion to make it a constitutional imperative. Reality has dawned on them.

It's need not be only family pressure or social pressure , lower confident students may like to hide behind the Hijab whereas some of them may be happy of their imposed freedom . Counselling sessions should be provided for all the needy Students and parents.

The Karnataka Bandh, Life threat to Judges was taking things a bit too far. Saw the clip of the CJI admonishing the petitioners lawyer ! Judgement in such cases have been given. As opined handiwork of some desperates to create unrest in the country. Remember PM Modi won in 4 States because of Hijab, Triple Talaaq, Muslim Women, AIMIM and Rahul-Priyanka. Now it is easier for him in Gujarat and Karnataka.

Even India can make it's own Happiness Index. Now here the subject is "Hijab" .....You decide which subject you want to discuss, Hijab or Petrol or Happiness Index???
