Puttur, Mar 21: The second PU girl students of the government PU college at Uppinangady in the taluk, who had stuck to the stand that they would attend classes only with the HIjabs and were insistent on being allowed into the college with their Hijabs, have climbed down from their stated stand. Even though they continued to boycott the classes on Saturday, it is learnt that they have agreed to follow the uniform rules of the college and attend the classes from Monday March 21 onwards.
These students had opposed the stand of the college administration that in tune with the order of the high court, the students enter their classes with HIjabs. These girl students, with the support of other students who supported the stand, had boycotted classes and also the examinations. The college administration, which was under pressure from the students, solidly withstood the pressure and clarified that the court judgement would not be violated.
Some leaders talked to the students as their education is facing the risk of getting hampered if they continue with their boycott. These leaders reportedly succeeded in convincing the students to follow the rules. Working president of the college development and monitoring committee, Suresh Atramajalu, stated that as per information received, these girl students have agreed to follow the rules currently in force.
