Week-long international physiotherapy conference ‘Mangalore PhysioCon’ from Mar 22

Mangaluru, Mar 21: ‘Mangalore PhysioCon 2022’ is an International physiotherapy conference organized by The South Canara Physiotherapy Teachers Association conducted for the physiotherapy professionals and students. The theme of the conference is ‘Normalizing Life Post Covid-19’.

Mangalore PhysioCon 2022 will be a week-long programme with various events such as blood donation, fruit distribution, pre conference workshop and post conference workshop, informed organising chairman of the conference Dr U T Ifthikar Ali.

Addressing media here on Monday March 21, Dr Ifthikar Ali said, “The first event of the Mangalore Physiocon 2022 is blood donation camp.

“A drop of blood can give a life to a human being', with this noble thought we are organizing the blood donation camp which will be held on March 22 at PA Institute of Physiotherapy, Konaje, at 10 am. The event will be inaugurated by Rashmi S R, tahsildar of Bantwal taluk. This event will be presided by Abdulla Ibrahim, chairman, PA Educational Trust and guest of honour is Dr M Vijaya Kumar, vice chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University). Many students from various physiotherapy colleges in around Mangaluru will take part in this event. Around 100 donors from various physiotherapy colleges will participate in this event. Donating blood is the integral part of any health care profession, so we are conducting this event for awareness to the public.

“On the first day, we have another event, which is the pre-conference workshop held in East Point College of Physiotherapy, Bengaluru on March 22 at 10 am. This will be inaugurated by Dr S R Shankapal, executive director, East Point Group of Institutions. The chief guest for the event is Prof Sai Kumar N, senate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health sciences, Bengaluru. The resource person is Dr Mallikarjunaiah H S, Prof & Principal Acharya's NR Institute Physiotherapy, Bengaluru. The topic of this session is 'Clinical reasoning, recent advances and EBP in Neuro Rehabilitation’.

“The second event of Mangalore Physiocon 2022, fruit distribution will be inaugurated at Government District Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru on March 23 at 10 am. The event will be inaugurated by Dr Sadashiv, district medical officer. The guest of honour for this event will be Dr Hansraj Alva, managing director, Vinaya Hospital & Research Centre and Dr Ranjit Shetty, trustee, Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust. On this day, a packet of fruits will be distributed to the patients in Wenlock Hospital, to the old age home in Capitanio and orphanage home ‘Yadeem Khana’ at Asaigoli.

“The third event of MPCON 2022 is pre-conference workshop. This event will be held in four different venues concurrently on March 24 at 9 am.

“The pre-conference I will be held be in Yenepoya Physiotherapy College, Yendurance, Yenepoya Univeristy. This will be inaugurated by Dr Kumar IAS, CEO, D K zilla panchayat at 9 am. The event will be presided over by Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, chancellor, Yenepoya (Demeed to be University).

“The topic of this session is 'Hip assessment and management: The missing link with Lambar Spine'. The resource person of the session will be Dr S M Zahidul Islam, in-charge, department of Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Rehab Unit, Bangladesh.

“The Pre-Conference 'I' will be held in Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, Deralakatte at 9:15 am. This will be inaugurated and presided by Prof (Dr) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, vice chancellor, Nitte (DU). The resource person of the session will be Dr Rakesh Krishna Kovela, Prof & Dean (Academics), Ravi Nair Physiotherapy College, Datta Megha Institute of Medical Sciences on the Topic: 'Sensory Integration approach in Sensory processing disorders'.

“The Pre-Conference III will be held in City College of Physiotherapy, Shaktinagar at 9.30 am. This will be inaugurated by Dr K Venkatagiri, syndicate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru and presided by Dr K Bhasker Shetty, president, City Hospital Charitable Trust & NET. The guest of honour will be Prof Mohammad Suhail, Prof & dean, Kanachur College of Physiotherapy & Allied Health Sciences, Mangaluru. Resource person will be Dr Samana Sayed, HOD, Sunshine Multispeciality Hospital, Mumbai on the Topic 'Post Covid Physiotherapy rehabilitation'.

“The Pre-Conference 'V' will be held in Manipal College of Health Professions, department of Physiotherapy, MAHE, Manipal at 10 am, which will be inaugurated by Dr M V Prabhu, pro vice chancellor, MAHE. The guest of honour for this event will be Dr U T lfthikar Ali, president IAP, Karnataka. The resource person is Dr Ramakrishnan Mani, senior lecturer, University of Otago, Newzerland, Dr. Divya Adhia, Research Fellow, Dunedin School of Medicine, New Zealand, Dr Ranganath G, associate professor, GITAM School of Physiotherapy, Andhra Pradesh, Kavitha Vishal, assistant professor, department of Physiotherapy, MCHP, Manipal, Dr Devanandh R, consultant physiotherapist, Tumormo Physiotherapy Centre, Chennai, Anupama Prabhu, assistant professor, department of Physiotherapy MCHP, Manipal, Y V Raghava N, PhD student, McMaster University, Canada. The topic of this session is ‘Physiotherapy Update in Chronic Pain Management’.

“On the same day, March 24, the Preliminary Round of "Inter Collegiate Cultural Competition’ will be held in Town Hall, Mangaluru at 9.30 am. This event will be inaugurated by Premanand Shetty, mayor of Mangaluru and will be presided by Dr Ali Irani, chairman, External Affairs, Indian Association of Physiotherapists. The guests of honour for this event will be Dr Divyanjali Shetty, trustee, Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust and Lokesh A C, inspector of police, Pandeshwar.

“The ‘International Physiotherapy conference 2022’ will be the 4th and main event of the Mangalore PhysioCon2022. The conference will be held at TMA Pai, International Convention Centre, Mangaluru on March 25 and 26 which will be inaugurated by Arif Mohammed Khan, governor of Kerala, presided by Dr K Sudhakar, minister for Health & Family Welfare & Medical Education, government of Karnataka, keynote address by Dr M Ramesh, vice chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, special address by Dr HS Ballal, pro-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal.

“Young achiever awardee Dr Shajir Gaffar, CEO, VPS Health Care - Dubai & Northern Emirates will be on the dais along with the guests of honour Dr Ali Irani, chairman - International Affairs of Indian Association of Physiotherapists and Dr Sanjiv K Jha, president, Indian Association of Physiotherapists.

“This conference will be a juncture of many expertise in the field of physiotherapy. Around 5,000 delegates are expected to attend this conference. The conference will be conducted for two days. After the inaugural function, there will be the talks by international and national speakers, scientific paper and poster presentation by the UG, PG & PhD students/physiotherapists followed by quiz competition.

“The intercollegiate cultural fest will be inaugurated by N Shashi Kumar, IPS, commissioner of police, Mangaluru at TMA Pai International Convention Centre, Mangalore at 6 pm on March 25 in TMA Pai Convention Centre. Students from various physiotherapy colleges all over India will participate in the all the events held during the conference.

“The valedictory ceremony of MPCON 2022 will be held on March 26 in TMA Pai International Convention Centre. The chief guest of this function is Nalin Kumar Kateel, member of parliament, Lok Sabha & president, BJP Karnataka. The awards will be distributed by UT Khader, MLA & deputy opposition leader, government of Karnataka. The valedictory speech will be delivered by Dr N Ramakrishna Reddy, registrar, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru. The guests of honour will be Dr Suresh Babu Reddy, vice president, Indian Association of Physiotherapists, Dr K Venkatagiri, syndicate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Dr Sai Kumar N, senate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Dr Sharan Shetty, senate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru and the managements of the physiotherapy colleges of Mangaluru.

“The cultural fest with awards ceremony, banquet dinner and DJ night of Mangalore PhysioCon 2022 will be held in Soorya Woods Convention Centre, Mangaluru on March 26. This event will be inaugurated by Suniel Shetty, actor, entrepreneur and film producer, Indian Film Industry. Celebrity DJ Suketu will be the DJ for this event.

“The final event of the MPCON2022 is the post-conference workshop. The post-conference workshop will be held in four different venues concurrently on March 27.

“The Post-Conference ‘I’ will be held be in Father Muller's College of Physiotherapy, Mangaluru. The Post Conference will be inaugurated by Vedavyasa Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru City South (DK) and will be presided by Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The guest of honour will be Dr Chaitanya Shivanand, former syndicate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru. The resource person of this session will be Dr Amit Sharma, PhD, deputy director, School of Physiotherapy, RK University, Gujarat. The topic of this session will be 'Bio Mechanics of Foot and Hand'.

“The Post-Conference 'II' will be held be in Tejasvini Physiotherapy College, Kudupu. The post conference will be inaugurated by Dr Saikumar Nanamala, senate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and will be presided by Dr M Shantharam Shetty, chairman, Tejaswini Hospital Group of Institutions. The resource person of this session will be Dr H Karvannan, associate professor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru. The topic of this session will be ‘Rotator Cuff related shoulder pain and management’.

“The Post-Conference I will be held be in Srinivas University, Institute of Physiotherapy, Mangaluru. This event will be inaugurated by Dr A Srinivas Rao, chancellor, Srinivas University, Mangaluru. The resource person will be Dr Asir John Samuel, professor, Maharishi Markandeswar Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Maharishi Markandeswar (Deemed to be University), Haryana.

“The topic of this session will be 'Qualitative and Quantitative research methods, statistical software based training’. The Post-Conference 'V' will be held be in Vikas College of Physiotherapy, Mangaluru. The post conference will be inaugurated by Dr Aishwarya K C, senate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences & Director, KVG Medical College, Sullia at 9 am and will be presided by J Krishna Palemar, chairman, Vikas Group of Institutions, Mangalore. The guest of honour will be Dr Madhulika Vasant Horatti, physiotherapist, Hubli Child Development Center. The resource person is Dr Snehal Deshpande, neonatal & developmental therapist C/NDT, Mumbai. The topic of this session will be ‘Taping in Paediatric'. This will be the events of the whole week of Mangalore PhysioCon 2022,” he said.

The organising chairman of the conference is Dr U T Ifthikar Ali, the organising secretaries are Dr Abhilash and Dr Ajay. The treasurer is Dr Vijay P. The joint secretaries are Prof Gladson Jose, Dr Bharath Shetty, Dr Ajay Thakur, Dr Sarath and Dr Amar Prakash. The convenors are Dr Mohammad Suhail and Dr Vaishali.
