Mangaluru, Mar 22: The police identified the youth who desecrated Kandavarapadavu Sri Kordabbu Daivasthana near Kaikamba on the night of Sunday March 20 as Sahul Hameed (27), resident of Gurpur Kaikamba. The police personnel of Bajpe station arrested him and produced him in the court on Monday March 21.
CCTV cameras have captured the fact that Sahul Hameed entered the said Daivasthana at 10.45 pm on Sunday. He is then seen snuffing out the burning lamps lit in front of the Daivas and also the ones near Rahu Guliga Daivas. He then is seen seated for some time on the compound wall and returning to the Daivasthana. He then is seen lighting the lamps again and then walking on the perambulatory path from the wrong side. The scene also shows that the place was blood-smeared at that time. Hameed was inside the Daivasthana for about 45 minutes.
The villagers came to know of the incident on Monday morning after which they came together and expressed anger. Bajpe police inspector, Sandesh P G along with other staff visited the spot, scrutinized the area and watched the CCTV footage. He then arrested Sahul. On the basis of a complaint made by the Daivasthana managing committee, Hameed has been booked for sacrilege.
A blood-stained match box and Rs 200 currency note were found from the Daivasthana. Vermillion also was found to have been strewn around. Sahul was injured after his hand came in contact with broken glass splinter at Gurpur. As he came to the Daivasthana in that state directly, it is reasoned that blood droplets were found because of his injury.
The management organized the holy 'Darshan' at the Daivasthana on Monday evening. Even though the accused and his relatives were asked to be present, no one came. The Daivas through the Darshana announced that they will punish the concerned for this sacrilegious act.
