Mangaluru, Mar 22: The citizens living in and around Sultan Batheri tourist spot in the city have vented their frustration on the pathetic condition of the road by displaying a banner in which they have accused the Mangaluru City Corporation and MLA concerned of not hearing their woes.

The banner that is displayed near Sultan Battery by the citizens of the vicinity says, “People of our locality have to decide regarding how we have to answer the people's representatives who had promised to upgrade Sultan Battery Road but so far not even 10 percent of the work is completed. This delay is making it extremely difficult for the people living in the area to commute."

“If the condition of the road that leads to beautiful places like Boloor and Tannirbhavi, which is at a distance of just 1 km from the residence of our MLA and 2 km from the office of MCC, is in such a state, then what is the fate of tourist spots that are on the outskirts of the city? Our representatives know only to carry out ‘Guddali Pooje’ while laying the foundation stone for any work. After that they are never bothered to check on the progress of the work", reads the banner.

“If this type of beach was there in states like Goa or Kerala, they would have been beautified long back. Here the people's representatives are not ready to listen to the woes and suggestions of the public. Compensation is not given to people who have sold their land to the government for road widening work. At least now the representatives concerned have to wake up and not create a scenario for the public to hold a vociferous protest,” residents warn in the banner.

If a new wider road is constructed ,this will be a key area in Mangalore ..From Lady hill to Battery ..and then if there is a new road across Madakadkani ..it can act as a ring road ..will surely give impetus to economic activity and high rises ..

You are right. But who will do it ?. All the responsible people are busy with other important task of dividing the society based on religion and cast. Intelligent public of our district are busy discussing about the Kashmiri Pandits' exodus which happened 3 decades ago during Jagmohan and VP Singh's rule.

Ground breaking ceremony is only for getting the 30% commission. After that the elected representatives, look around for the next project to announce, so that they can get the next kick back. Cannot expect anything more from this 30% commission govt. In between, to divert peoples attention they will creat comunal tension.
