 Mangalore, Jan 24: A one-day state level literary-cultural convention ‘Nammadu’ was held under the auspices of St Aloysius Pre-University College in association with department of Kannada and Culture and Taluk Kannada Sahithya Parishath, at Loyola Hall of St Aloysius P U College, here on Monday January 24.

Captain Ganesh Karnik, MLC inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address Captain Ganesh Karnik said that 'Nammadu' has made an attempt to reintroduce our own culture and literature to students who are floating in the flood of globalization, modernization and growing technology. Stressing on the responsibility of any educational institution in retaining the culture of a nation, he said schools and colleges should provide quintessence of literature and culture for the students.

Pointing out the corruption and fraud cases being reported from educated people, he said education should provide integrated growth of individual, not mere skills and information. He also indicated the rises of scams and frauds and urged to recall what went wrong in the education system in recent years.

Harikrishna Punaroor, former state president, Kannada Sahithya Parishad presided over the programme. St Aloysius College administrator Fr Elvis Lewis, writer Arehole Sadashiva Rao, Sarvotham Anchan, president of Mangalore taluk Kannada Sahithya Parishad, Prof John Edward D’Silva, principal, St Aloysius P U College Mangalore among others were present.

The language of Karnataka and its culture and traditions took a central focus in the convention. As part of the convention, state-level literary and cultural competitions were conducted for the students. A great many teams from across the state participated in the cultural competitions.
