Mangalore: 62nd Republic Day Celebrated in City with Patriotic Spirit

Mangalore, Jan 26: The 62nd Republic Day celebration was held with patriotic spirit and zest at Nehru Maidan in the city on Wednesday January 26.
District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar hoisted the tri-colour Indian Flag in the presence of over 1,000 citizens. Speaking on the occasion, he said that it is one of the most prominent days for the Indian citizens. He highlighted the contribution of Narasimha Rao to constitutional development and said his 125th birth anniversary will be celebrated grandly prior to February 26.
Pointing out the development in Dakshina Kannada over the past 2 years he said a record of 1,050 crore has been spent on the developments projects which is indeed a good sign for the people of the district. He also spoke on the budget reserved by the government for housing facilities and agricultural developments. 2.9 crore has been set aside for developing the Western Ghats, he said.
Eminent persons including deputy speaker of the assembly Yogish Bhat, CDA chairman Nagraj Shetty, MLA U T Khader, D C Subodh Yadav, Santhosh Bhandary, Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and SP Subramanyeshwar Rao among others were present.
29 personalities who have excelled in various fields at the state and national levels were felicitated on the occasion. The State Hoysala Award was conferred upon Praveen A K of Sullia taluk.
14 teams comprising the NCC wings, police personnel and students participated in the march past. Various cultural programmes depicting Indian traditions were presented.
A Mock Drill was also conducted to train the police officials in emergency situations and during the possible terrorist attack.
