Udupi, Mar 26: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) divisional secretary Sharan Pumpwell urged the temple administration committee of Kollur Mookambika temple to do away with ‘Salaam Mangalarathi’, a ritual offered in the temple remembering Tipu Sultan.
VHP in its appeal to the temple committee said, “Tipu Sultan was a cruel, religiously blind, anti-Kannada and anti-Hindu religion person. He has massacred thousands of Hindus. Hundreds of temples are demolished by him. It is really regretful that a Mangalarathi is being offered to Devi Mookambika in the name of Salaam. The sanctity of the holy place will be maligned because of this. Salaam Mangalarathi if the sign of slavery. The Endowment department has to take action in this regard. Salaam name should be removed and Mangalarathi should be done in the name of God.”
Appeal in this regard is sent to the Muzrai department minister Shashikala Jolle, president and executive officer of temple management committee.
Dinesh Mendon Byndoor, district secretary VHP and Jagadeesha Kollur, Prakhanda president were present.
