Udupi, Mar 26: A lorry laden with sand that could not move forward due to heavy load, moved backwards near Parkala market, NH 169A and toppled beside the road on Saturday March 26. The driver and the cleaner of the lorry had a miraculous escape.
The incident took place when the lorry was moving from Manipal to Parkala. It could not move forward due to highway works in progress as it approached Parkala market. It moved backwards and fell beside a house damaging the building in the process. As the inmates had already vacated the house, there was no loss of life.
As the court has released a stay order on the widening of the road in this part for the time being, the works have stopped halfway causing hardship for traffic. Locals have urged officials to complete the work before the onset of monsoons.
