Udupi, Mar 30: The Underground Drainage Work (UGD) is in progress beside the Gundibail road since the past one and a half months and the pile of mud dumped on the road is not yet removed.
The Ambagilu-Gundibail road is always full of vehicles as it is the main road to enter Udupi city.
The work on UGD seems to be going on forever. The whole stretch of road is filled with dust and has become dangerous for the pedestrians and two wheeler riders to commute.
One side of the road is closed and the traffic is allowed to move only from the other side. During morning and evening rush hours the traffic congestion is beyond the control of the traffic policemen.
Citizens and commuters on this road have already expressed their frustration. If the municipality ward councillor is approached he says that work is carried out by the engineer of the city municipality.
Geetha Shet, member of Gundibail ward, said, “I am aware of the inconvenience that is caused to the public and commuters on Gundibail-Ambagilu road. The work is going on at a slow pace due to various reasons. It took time to remove the old pipe that was laid in 2007. Now the work is being done at a high speed. The engineers and contractors concerned are not responding properly. People have to be patient. The city municipality has instructed the engineer concerned to finish the work before monsoon.”
