Bantwal: Ganja trafficking in auto rickshaw - Accused held, items seized

Bantwal, Mar 31: Based on reliable information, a police team led by the police sub-inspector of the town station here conducted a raid when ganja was being carried in an auto rickshaw in an attempt to sell it to customers. The accused as well as things worth thousands of rupees were seized on the occasion.

The arrested accused happens to be Siddique alias Koli Siddque (36), son of Shekhabba from Kanchinadka Padavu in Sajipa Nadu village.

Materials worth about Rs 80,000 were taken into possession from the accused. They include ganja worth about Rs 2,000, auto rickshaw valued at Rs 60,000, Rs 1,260 in cash and other things.

The raid was conducted at Barke near Benkye of Sajipa Mooda village after the polive got to know that the accused was selling ganja. Siddique had kept ganja for sale inside the auto rickshaw and was waiting for people when the police arrived there in a jeep. Noticing the policemen, the accused tried to flee, leaving behind the three-wheeler. The police succeeded in taking him into possession and questioning him. He said that ganja was brought from areas near Uppal and they were packed in small sachets for being sold to prospective customers. The accused was produced in the court.

The arrest was made by a team led by the town station police sub-inspector Avinash, under the leadership of town station police inspector Vivekananda, and guidance of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Rishikesh Sonawane and Bantwal deputy superintendent of police, Pratap Singh Thorat.
