Koppal: Health dept driver here is 'Sultan' of hungry, thirsty stray birds

Daijiworld Media Network - Koppal (SP)

Koppal, Mar 31: Often we come across generous advice conveyed through social websites to feed the birds and provide water to the animals during summer. But most of them do not do anything on their own except forward such advice.

Meet this driver working for the health department at Koppal. He has been providing drinking water by filling earthen pots with water and providing food everyday to birds. This bird lover who takes care of the needs of birds is Sultan Saab.

Sultan Saab is the driver of a government vehicle allotted to Koppal district health and family welfare officer. He has been leaving pots full of water for the birds every morning. He has hung earthen pots by the branches of hundreds of trees and plants located around the district administration complex at Koppal. He also provides seeds for the birds at different places. After dropping the officer to office, whenever he gets time, Sultan Saab pours water into the earthen pots. He buys seeds from the Agricultural Produce Market Committee and feeds the birds.

Sultan, who is 56 years old now, hails from Raichur. He finds happiness in meeting the needs of the birds. He had tied earthen pots to trees standing in the old district hospital compound located in the heart of the town. After the office was shifted to the district complex, he has hung about 150 earthen pots to the trees and plants here.

Sultan Saab says that many years ago, he had seen a bird struggling for water. He thought of providing water to the birds. He then bought the earthen pots and tied them to plants. He spends about Rs 2,500 every month to provide seeds to the birds. Because of his initiative the district administration complex here is always filled with the chirps of the birds which provide solace to the people coming here for various purposes.

Sultan stands out because of his selfless initiative, as compared to the people who do such services more to get publicity rather than out of true concern. He has done this for 14 years and the birds seem eternally grateful to him.

May God bless him with good health. Good that he finds some happiness in his deeds. Hope the hatred filled mentality people do not disturb his kind service to the birds who do not follow any religion.
