Udupi: Four-lane road from Mala Gate to Karkala approved - Shobha Karandlaje

Udupi, Apr 1: Union minister and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has informed that approval is granted by union minister for highways and transport Nitin Gadkari to convert the two-lane road into four-lane between Mala Gate to Karkala on NH 169, which falls under Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency.

The approval was granted as Shobha Karandlaje, union minister for agriculture and farmers’ welfare, met Gadkari and submitted an appeal for the same. National highway ministry have approval to release Rs 177.84 crore to convert 15.27 km stretch of the road into four lane from the present two lane.

Karandlaje thanked union minister Gadkari for giving the approval for the project which was very essential for people living in Shringeri, Chikkamagaluru and Karkala as the present two lane road commuting is very tiresome.

Tender process will start soon and the work will begin once the tender process is over as per the information provided by union minister Karandlaje.

    I don't understand the priorities of the elected representatives. Instead of focusing on sustainable development, these politicians want to implement projects which not only which have a large impact on ecological balance but also on the common man. Is this project a really requirement at the foothold of ecologically sensitive western ghats ?. Prior to approval, did she do any study on the effect of projects like these on western ghats ?. In my opinion, elected members should concentrate first on basic necessities than on the projects which give the fame overnight. These people giving least priorities to issues like sustainability in water management , waste management, agriculture etc,. Everybody wants name, fame and money overnight.. So not so warranted road projects like these are the ideal options for these politicians. Well, we have chosen these people..So we people have to see the dark days..

    With due respect to Mr.Sunil Kumar for his dream Karkala ambition and whatever efforts he has taken in developing karkala this project is absolutely not required as the present road itself is very wide and recently it was upgraded. The new project will cut down more trees and damage environment further. Instead this fund should hv been used for other developmental projects. My sincere request with concerned people to stop this project.

    Count from today how many years will take to complete this 4 lanes? Also many will lose houses and land in this expansion. Hope this akka provide them market rate compensation to rebuild thier lives . I have met few of my relatives who is losing thier land marked for road expansions 3 yrs ago. No one is saying how and when they will receive compensation. It is so sad people lose houses and no where to go due to lack of funds. Some of these people owned these land for more than 200 years and lose for this expansion.

    Did anyone think about the harm going to be by these four liners to the Nature ?How many trees ,and nature will fall opfer to this .Last dont complain no rain or roads are covered with mud falling from Ghats.

    Arjun, may be your grandchildren, its not Dubai where such road projects finishes in one year with 10 times better quality. It will take 25 years in Karnataka and costs many times more than developed countries and quality of work...with 40%...God knows!
