Mangaluru, Apr 1: Managing director and CEO of Karnataka Bank, Mahabaleshwar Rao, inaugurated a new surgical microscope in a programme organised by the department of Ophthalmology of Wenlock and KMC at district Wenlock hospital here on Friday, April 1.
After inaugurating the surgical microscope, donated by Karnataka Bank as part of CSR activity, addressing the gathering, Mahabaleshwar Rao said, "Bringing people from darkness to light should be the motto, especially for those who choose Ophthalmology. One morning, I received a call from a friend that Wenlock hospital needs this surgical microscope equipment. Hence, I asked him to send a request letter. But surprisingly, the doctors approached me. Actually, my intention was not to trouble the doctors, so I had asked to send a request letter. But the doctors came to my cabin and handed over the request letter to me. Immediately, sanction was given to the request letter.
"I am very pleased that this microscope equipment is effectively used and it is in good hands. So that is the real purpose and I am really satisfied and very happy. Karnataka Bank and Wenlock hospital are not only closely associated but also knitted. I also know that you do not come with any of your personal purposes, but this is for the society. Even I am on the same journey that is serving the society. In the past too, we have supported good causes and even in the future, Karnataka Bank is with you. If good banks like Karnataka Bank grow, it will benefit the society," he said.
Dean of KMC Ophthalmology, Unnikrishnan said, "I have visited so many government hospitals, but never seen a government hospital like Wenlock. The quality of service is really good. It may be because of the Public-Private Private Partnership model. "
He also said that TMA Pai had a dream to drive out three evils like illiteracy, ill-health, and poverty from the society. “So, he started his educational institution and started the first private medical college in the country. Though medical college was opened in Manipal, students entered KMC for their first year and their medical skills were learnt in Wenlock. Even during alumni meets, they remember the hospital.”
Wenlock Hospital DMO Sadhashiva, HOD Dr Ajay Kamath, Dr Anita, Dr Soumya and Dr Teena were present.
