Udupi, Apr 1: The first additional CJ and JMFC court has sentenced an accused for three years of imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs 10,000 for vandalising mosque property and causing communal disharmony besides public unrest.
The accused, who has been identified as Ankit Kumpala, is a resident of Kondamkur village in Puttur taluk. The Udupi police had registered a case against him and had submitted its chargesheet against the accused to the court.

The accused Ankit Kumpala had reportedly barged into a mosque on January 29, 2017, in Ambalpady village and had vandalised the place of worship by breaking the glass window panes and had indulged in stone pelting causing communal disharmony and public unrest. The act was caught on a CCTV camera.
The court took cognizance of the act of causing destruction to property of the mosque and for causing communal tension in the locality.
The judgment was delivered by Justice Shyam Prakash while Mohini K was the public prosecutor.
