Mangalore: Centenary Jubilee Celebration of Holy Cross Church Begins

Mangalore, Jan 29: The inaugural ceremony of the centenary jubilee of the consecration of Holy Cross Church Cordel Kulshekar was held on Saturday January 29 at the Church ground. Fr Francis Serrao, provincial, Karnataka Jesuits, and Fr Lawrence C D’Souza, director, St John’s Medical College, Bangalore, were the chief guests.
 
Fr Serrao inaugurated the cemetery ‘Maha Dwara’ which was built to commemorate the centenary jubilee. Fr Lawrence C D’Souza blessed the Dwara.
 
Later, in the stage programme, Fr Serrao inaugurated the jubilee emblem and spoke about the role of Jesuits in the Kulshekar Mission. He reminded everyone that the Kulshekar Church was built by the Jesuits in 1912 and then handed over to the Diocesan priests. He said that the Jesuits serve all over the world in different fields.




































The donors of the cemetery Maha Dwara were felicitated by Fr D’Souza.
 
In his message Fr D’Souza said that the Kulshekar parishioners are very generous in their contributions and this has resulted in a total change in the premises of the church. “The devotion of Cordelites has resulted in many miracles, especially during the Proclamation of Bible in 2010. Keep up the teachings of Christ especially love, service, charity, and peace”, he added.
 
Fr Valerian Pinto felicitated the contractor of the Dwara Walter Pinto, Vamanjoor. Praveen Patrao, vice-president, Kulshekar Church, welcomed the gathering.
 
Secretary George D’Souza, former vice-presidents Sushil Noronha, Victor Vas, as well as assistant parish priests Fr Arun Lobo and Fr J B Moras were present. Nishel D’Souza compered the programme.
 
Later, Fr Serrao was the main celebrant at the High Mass with other concelebrants. Fr D’Souza preached the word of God. At the end, Fr Pinto delivered the vote of thanks.

The participants were served with cake and soft drinks. More than 2,000 devotees participated in the jubilee inaugural ceremony.
