Kundapur, Apr 2: Five fishermen were rescued after the fishing boat in which they were fishing in deep sea at around 20 nautical miles from Gangolli got capsized due to high waves. The boat had gone to fishing from Malpe fishing port.

Nagappa Rama, Sachin Ullas Kudthalikar, Deepak Narayana Kharvi, Subhash Gangeshwara and Suraj Kumar Bhagat were the fortunate fishermen who were rescued by a nearby boat.

The boat ‘Manal’ which capsized, was owned by Mohammed Hanif of Kutpady. It had gone for fishing at around 3 pm on March 29 from Malpe fishing port. On the midnight of March 30, the velocity of waves in the deep sea near Gangolli, went too high as a result of which the fibre sheet below the engine got ripped off. Water gushed into the boat and started sinking.

The fishermen were rescued by Digambara Kharvi and team, who were fishing on their boat Raja Raksha in nearby waters. However, Manal boat could not be rescued and it sank. The loss is estimated to be Rs 25 lac.

A case in this connection is registered in Gangolli coast guard force police station.
