Halal ban row: Bommai directs all SPs, DCs to be vigilant, 7 held

Bengaluru, Apr 2 (IANS): Halal ban controversy in Karnataka has taken a serious turn in the state. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that he has directed all Superintendents of Police (SP) and Deputy Commissioners to initiate strict action against elements who try to create problems during the festival.

Karnataka is celebrating Ugadi festival on Saturday followed by 'Hosa tadukua' on Sunday. The people especially in south Karnataka feast on non-vegetarian food en mass during this period. Hindutva activists are carrying out a full-fledged campaign that Hindus must not make purchase of halal cut meat.

Answering a question, Bommai said that he has directed to conduct peace meetings between leaders of communities and ensure that the law and order system is not disturbed in the state.

Meanwhile, Bhadravathi police in Shivamogga district arrested 7 persons for assaulting hotel staff demanding non-halal meat on Friday night. The arrested persons had gone to a chicken meat stall, abused and threatened the owner that he should not sell halal meat as 99 per cent of the population of the area follow Hindu religion.

The same group went to the Janata hotel and demanded jhatka cut meat. They insisted that the hotel should not sell halal cut meat. They quarrelled with a customer and assaulted one of the hotel staff. The hotel and meat shop owners had lodged a complaint with the police.

Shivamogga SP Lakshmi Prasad stated that based on two FIRs, Vadivelu, Savai Singh, Srikanth, Krishna, Gunda and other two persons were arrested.

Meanwhile, Shashikala Jolle, Minister for Muzarai and Wakf, stated on Saturday, "We are with Hindu activists who are carrying out campaigns against halal meat. I have to learn about halal and jhatka cut. Once I gather information, will talk to CM Bommai and he will take a call on it."

Halal killing is most heinous form of killing animals for eating, a healthy goat takes one hour to die, until that time it's dying in extreme pain. Halal killing mustbebanned. Best way is to stun the animal before. Halal meat must not be pushed on those who do not eat halal meat.

Dude halal is a very common practice of slaughtering practiced in pre islamic era in arabian region. The Jews call in kosher. Its better fir humans to consume meat once blood is let to drain off a carcus especially in India where inspection is not strong. If you dont like the word halal then do kosher. Its the same thing.

In Halal system, animal doesn't feel much pain as this system does not make any injury to bones. On the other hand Jhatka cut in which throat of the animal is cut in one strike suffers lot of pain due to the reason that bone of animal get effected. Halal is good and healthy to eat.

People are demanding jhatka animal and real jhatka will come to them soon - first one will be in 2023 at Karnataka and the next in 2024 at centre New Delhi. After that people of India will at peace and concentrate on development and prosperity. Enough is enough.

Hello Bomma. You should also ensure that India does not issue any more Halal certificates from approved slaughter houses for meat export. See impact on your govt friendly foreign policy.

The BJP and the RSS in Karnataka are only wasting time on communal issues to divide society. B0mmai is trying to compete with Yogi to communalise the State of Karnataka. No worry about the future of the state or. its people. This Govt will go down in History as the Govt only had indulged in Harassing the Minorities

What a sorry figure this CM is cutting. He appears to be totally unfit to occupy this chair. Or may be he does not have a clue on how to go about it. Just make a strict and stern announcement that this government doesn't support the mischief makers and announce loud and clear that he will break the bones of those who create mischief and divide the station on the basis of religion. What is the problem in reassuring the Muslim community that no new rules will apply and they are free to carry on their business without let or hindrance from anyone? In stead of all that, he is beating around the bush and directing the officials to be vigilant! How stupid! This is not what a CM ought to be like. As somebody suggested here in these columns, Yeddyurappa, although corrupt, was not someone who divided the people on the basis of religion. This situation calls for stern action, Mr.Bommai. You are the CM of all the people, the Hindus, Muslims, Christians and whoever stays in this state. You just can't have one set of rules for the people your party favours and another for those it doesn't.
