Bahrain: Singing and Dance Competitions Draw Fervent Participation

Bahrain, Jan 30:  The annual competitions of Konkani Kutam were held at the Karnataka Social Club premises on Friday January 28.

The competitions commenced at 11.30 am.  Fr Fredrick D’Souza, assistant parish priest of Sacred Heart Church, Bahrain was the chief guest.  He urged the parents to encourage their children to speak in Konkani and lauded the participation in Konkani competitions. Bertie Rego compered the programme.


































Singing and dancing competitions were organized, both comprising of three groups -  4 to 8 years, 8 to 12 years  and 12 to 18 years.  38 children enthusiastically participated in the competitions.

The winners of the competitions are as follows:

Konkani singing contest

4 to 8 years:
1. Rolwyn Martis
2. Orville Sequeira
3. Ancilla Lita D’Souza

8 to12 years:
1. Melissa Martis
2. Alina Peres
3. Jovita D’Silva

12 to18 years:
1. Adelin Alva
2. Hannah Miranda
3. Evita Castelino

Konkani dance contest

4 to 8 years:
1. Orville Sequeira
2. Joel D’Souza
3. Michelle D’Souza

8 to12 years:
1 Jovita D’Silva
2. Ashlyn Alva
3. Leon D’Almeida
12 to18 years:
1. Eunice D’souza
2. Evita Castelino
3. Adeline Alva

The competitions concluded with distribution of prizes. All the participants received consolation prizes.  

With the view to promote Konkani language among children Konkani Kutam conducts several competitions every year.

    great inspiration to the youngsters i think they will ll shine better than the current singers from manglore. see the talent and voice quality great.keep it up
