Hindu activists allege religious conversion attempts in Karnataka prison

Gadag, Apr 6 (IANS): Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists on Wednesday complained to the Superintendent of Police of Gadag district in Karnataka over distribution of copies of Bible to the prisoners in the jail and demanded immediate action and suspension against prison authorities.

The Hindu activists demanded that the Christian missionaries should not be allowed inside the premises of the Gadag district jail and also other prisons in the state. The incident had come to light when one of the workers had gone to meet a prisoner. The activists have collected photos and copies of the distributed Bible.

According to the complaint, a team of seven member Christian evangelists had visited the Gadag District Prison on March 12. The team had visited to 'conduct prayers and transform the mindset of prisoners' and had distributed the copies of the New Testament of Bible.

The activists alleged that the act was being done with an intention to carry out religious conversions. The Hindu activists also criticised the authorities for permitting them to distribute religious texts. The New Testament is a mini Bible, the Hindu activists alleged.

However, the prison authorities maintained that the missionaries were allowed inside the jail to carry out programmes for the prisoners by the department.

If the Catholics are truly not selfish on this Lord's instruction like other sections follow, imagine?- Mt 28 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

I wonder how even jailed criminals are convinced to convert to the said religion while vice versa hardly any cases are reported? There definitely might be something very good that might be convincing these criminals to change their religion, is it not?

These activists are scared if the people will convert or become good people after listening God's words and they will live better life once they released from jail. And there will be no support for these goondas. And these prisoners will not involve in BD. Jai Yeshu.

Those in prison, they need solace, comfort. Why don't you bd take up the work? If anyone is visiting and comforting them why it burns you. Vidhi is cruel to those who are hard hearted. Await your turn.

It is better to read religious scripts of other religions. It helps us to understand their faith in a better way. In 1986, I personally asked my classmate to bring bible. She gave me a copy of new testament, which is with me. What is the problem if we read. Apart from that, now it is easily available online.

It's ok for hindu activists to teach bhagavad gita in schools. It's ok for them to chase dalits from villages and not let them enter temples.

Dear Hindu activists ,kindly listen.A jail is not only for Hindus there ,but all religion People.and its a place sometimes jail mates who are convicted to death ,do want to repent their sins ,and turn back to religion whichever they neglected last time .Thy wish to talk to a priest whatever religion is many times they want become good persons .Thats why cant allow them their wish ?Immediately you think of conversion ?yes ,they do sometime .Let them.In Prison they dont have other work ,thatswhy they would like to read religious books .Why are you for all things opposing ?This shows you have hardly knowledge of things out of your world.I am not supporting to any religion people ,but its the fact .So accept it ,or learn more about outside world ,that you dont know.

These guys are nuts to protest against it.. . In western countries Christian as well Muslims preachers are allowed to preach the inmates so as with a hope they shun their criminal activities and lead a God fearing life. This method has turned fruitful in USA where many inmates have changed from criminal background to good humans.
