Udupi, Apr 8: Police arrested a 19-year-old, native of Vijayanagar district, on the accusation of trying to break open Canara Bank ATM located at Ambagilu-Perampalli cross road.
According to the complaint filed by Simon D’Souza, general manager of Electronic Payment Services, which fills cash into ATMs of Canara Bank in Mangaluru and Udupi, the staff who went to refill the ATM with cash to the Canara Bank ATM at Perampalli-Ambagilu cross road saw that the locker door of ATM was open and someone had tried to break it.
The police team of Udupi went all the way to Hagaribommanahalli taluk in Vijaynagar district and arrested Hanumantha (19), resident of Kelagina Circle, Bennekallu of Vijayanagara district.
The accused was produced before the court and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
The operation was conducted under the orders of SP Vishnuvardhan and directed by additional SP Siddalingappa, and DySP Sudhakar Sadananda Naik. City police station inspectors Pramod Kumar, Mahesh TM, Vasappa Naik, Vijay and staff Sathish, Kiran, Santhosh Rathod were part of the team.
