Bengaluru, Apr 9: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has promised that the State Government will establish an Anchor Bank to meet the financial needs of the members of Women's Self Help Groups.
Inaugurating the 10-day 'National Sanjeevini Saras Mela' organised by the National Rural and Urban Livelihood Campaign at National College Grounds at Basavanagudi in Bengaluru on Saturday, he said the anchor bank will help in heralding a revolution in employment of women and empowering them.
Bommai said Rs 500 crore allocation has been provided in the budget to strengthen Women's Self Help Groups.
This would make about 4 lakh women economically self-reliant. The budget has also provided Rs 47,000 crore for various programmes related to welfare of women and another Rs 43,000 crore for child welfare schemes, he explained.
The Chief Minister went around the stalls before the inaugurating the fair purchased a saree for his wife paying Rs 2500 and also a shawl costing Rs 3,000.
He appreciated the weavers and artisans for the attractive products on sale.
