Beltangady, Apr 10: A warrant issued accused and his accomplices assaulted the Shankaranarayana police station personnel when they went to arrest him and bit the finger of a policeman. In addition, he and his accomplices punched the policemen and hurled stones at them. All the accused have been arrested.
The incident occurred when two Shankaranarayan police station personnel went to Golikatte of Pilya village in Beltangady taluk on April 8 to arrest Abdul Latif with a warrant. The police personnel showed their ID cards to the accused and also the court warrant. The police personnel asked the accused to go along with them. However, Abdul Latif snatched the warrant, abused them and said that police could not do anything to him and pulled the collar of the uniform of a policeman.
Meanwhile, the accused also called his accomplices who assaulted both the policemen with their fists and pelted stones at them. Abdul Latif also bit the index finger of one of the constables thus obstructing the police staff from carrying out their duty.
A case in this connection has been registered in Venur police station. Abdul Latif has been arrested and produced in the court. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
