Beltangady: Student injured in accident arrives on stretcher to write SSLC exam

Beltangady, Apr 12: A girl student, riding pillion with her mother on scooter to the examination center, in order to write the last examination on science subject of SSLC, met with accident but took first aid and took the examination by sleeping on the stretcher itself.

This incident occurred at Vani high school in the taluk on Monday, April 11.

Tanvi (15), daughter of Laxmana-Mamata couple, residents of Sampija in Navoor village, is the brave girl who wrote the examination bearing pain of accident injury. She is a student of St Mary’s English Medium school of Laila.

While proceeding to the examination centre with her mother on scooter, Tanvi fell down after the scooter skidded and got injured on her hands, legs and face. She was immediately admitted to private hospital and given medical aid. In the meantime, the matter was also informed to the school administrative committee.

As Tanvi could not write the examination, help was sought from the ninth standard student of the same school and separate room was arranged for Tanvi to take the examination from 11.45 am to 2.45 pm. The appeal for the same was made to the officers of the education department and examination supervisor, who agreed as the student was injured.

Dr Gopalkrishna, CEO of Benaka Hospital of Ujire provided the ambulance and stretcher and sent injured Tanvi to examination centre with a nurse and driver. After the examination, Tanvi was taken back to the hospital and the treatment continued.

The medical expenses of Tanvi were borne by the administrative committee of St Mary’s English Medium school, Laila.

BEO Beltangady, H S Virupakshappa said, “Education department responded immediately keeping in mind the future of the injured student. Tanvi answered the examination with the help of ninth standard student of St Mary’s English Medium school. She was taken back to hospital after the examination, in order to monitor her medical condition as per doctor’s advice.”

    This incident demonstrates two main things... One the grit and determination of the young girl to excel in life despite telling physical pain... Second is the support and compassion extended to her by the community in general... Challenges will appear every now and then in life... But it is most required to have the zeal to overcome them....
