US Magazine Rates Karnataka Best Tourist Spot

Bangalore, Feb 4 (DHNS) : Tourism in Karnataka has received a boost after a US-based lifestyle magazine Conde Nast featured the State and rated it as the fourth best destination in the world to visit this year in its Traveller edition this month. 

Karnataka in the fourth position and Odisha in the ninth position are the only Indian places to figure in the list of eleven. Iran tops the list of the must-travel destinations for the year followed by Botswana, Tasmania (Australia), Karnataka, Myanmar, Seoul (South Korea), Tel Aviv (Israel), Tallinn (Estonia), Odisha, Sri Lanka and Uruguay.

Director of Tourism Vishwanatha K Reddy said that this was the best possible exposure for Karnataka tourism and would help enormously in making the State a visible brand name in the international tourism sector in the coming years.

The Traveller piece recommends Karnataka for its palaces, tiger-spotting at unspoilt sanctuaries like Bandipur, the rapids of Coorg with the homestay experience along with the specially brewed coffee and of course the temples of Belur and Halebeedu.

The Tourism Department has been aggressively promoting the State in the international circles for the last three years by participating in trade fairs and road shows. This includes almost all European capitals and Argentina, Brazil, China, UAE and Japan. Reddy said they expected a big leap in tourists and the results of the promotions could be seen in a couple of years.

    It is very pleasing to know that our beloved Karnataka is been highlighted to be the 4th eye catching destination. This is something to be really proud of. With all due respect to people who have extended their thought on the news, I would like share a few thoughts of mine.
    I very often notice that most of the readers try share their views on both "Celebrating NEWS" as well as "Unpleasant NEWS". It is always nice to express opinions and acknowledge things. But the saddening part is our people at times forget about the core topic and try to relate everything to religion and/or politics???
    Although the said news block would be making us feel proud, the comments following will make us ashamed. Do we think with what sort of pride we would send the news link to any friend who is a foreigner or who isn’t a Kannadiga? Our hospitality, hygiene, etc are top class because we have been trained in our houses and schools to be so. That isn’t politics or religion!!!
    Isn’t there any difference between a ‘plane crash news’ and a new telling us about ‘Best Tourist Spot’?? A few people lost their beloved ones in plane crash, but it doesn’t make a difference every second reader discussed politics on the news column.
    Like the above example I came across a number of columns where this type of attitude was repeated. We are no doubt the best ones, but there is no harm in trying for super perfection. May be we need to think about it?

    It is great news for Karnataka & India. This is due to improved infrastructure in terms of accessibility. Still lots of improvement required in terms of quality hotel etc. Current & upcoming regimes moving towards the improvement let all us try to leave no corner stone to improve our self. We are just stone throw away from number one position.

    Yes,most people  even in Karnataka have never visited such wondeful historical places like Badami,Aihole,Padakathal,Bijapur etc. Why? Because our government does not promote them and it is so difficult to get there.

    Its indeed a good news but apart from our beautiful locations are our people really good in co operating with tourists? Are our guest houses , hotels , lodges , guides , public and private transporters helpful to tourists? They should be properly educated to maintain the dignity of the state and India before thinking their own gain.

    Before we celebrate and pat our own backs (and those of our corrupt leaders) let us be aware that Karnataka Tourism infrastructure is one of the least developped one even by Indian standards. Hampi for example is one of the most important and interesting spots in India. But there are no decent hotels and restaurants there. The huge are of the ruins does not have any decent shops for sovenirs nor any toilet facilities. The tourists are on their own if they want to get there from the nearest railway station of Airport. In any other country this kind of valuable tourist spot would be filled with 100,000 tourists every day unlike a few dozen now.

    Friends, Karnataka is the best among all the states in this wonderful country when it comes to tourist spot. Except for SNOW you find every thing here. The dense evergreen forests, the beautifully laid blue lagooned beach line on the west coast, the rich mining resources, most beautiful temples, (you may wonder, even a small temple in the holiest Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district offers free lunch and dinner to the devotees) . Right from Gurunanaks Zara in Bidar of North to the wonderful Palace of Mysore in the south from Karwar known as Kashmir of west to the Golden mines of Kolar in the east we have richness every where. The people are as good as the nature itself when it comes to hospitality. Dont worry if you dont know our language of karnataka, we try to speak your language when you approach us. We are next only to Himachal people when it comes to our purity of heart. Our people at northern part may sound loud and arrogant but by heart they are like the smooth butter of davanagere. It is our Udupi people who gave the world chain of Udupi hotels and it is our Bunt community who gave the metro like Mumbai Idli-wada-dosa. we have men like Narayanamurthy of Infosys proud to be called the great son of this state. If you are an outsider visiting our state and need any guidance dont hesitate to call for any sort of assistance. As a true Kannadiga of this wonderful land I am there to help you out.     They were built by Gangas, Rastrakutas, Kadambas, hoysala and Chalukyas.

    Every part of India is a tourist spot. We need to promote it. Surely there are some places in Karnataka which have not been visited by people of Karnataka themselves. The tourism department should actively promote both internal and external tourism. I wish the tourism department the best, so that it comes up from 4th to the first spot in the days to come.

    This is one of the great achievement of this government. Though we have oldest history we were not gain this status. I requesting all the anti government commntators that we should jump the ropes as opposition is doing. We are responsible citizens, and we should give full five years to this goverment. If we could not find any development we have the election throw them out.

    Certainly a goodnews for all Kannadigas.But unlike Kerala and Goa govts which are promoting tourism in a way ,Karanata lag behind quite distantly.Govt of Karnataka should develop touristic spots with infrastructure and other basic necessities.Yes Karanatak have more tourstic attractive places like Beluru,Halebeedu,Mysore,Hampe,Shrivanabelugula,Udupi,Karkal,Venoor,Moodbidri,Dharmastala Subramanya and so on so forth.Govt need to set aside some amount in the on coming state Budget.
