Mangalore, Feb 4:
The newly widened Car Street road was inaugurated by deputy speaker Yogish Bhat on Friday February 4.

Speaking on the occasion Bhat said that pending fund by the concerned authorities caused bit of delay in the completion of this much awaited project. Yet the speedy work carried out by the engineers who met the deadline set by Mangalore City Corporation is commendable, he added.

Commissioner Dr K N Vijayprakash said the project was undertaken by the engineers and contractors on a war footing.

Mayor Rajani Dugganna, deputy mayor Rajendra, corporators Mamatha Shenoy and Ranganath Kini among others were present.  A chariot was pulled along the Car Street road before the inauguration.

BJP/RSS and Bajrang are all rogues. The road is a small project and made a mountain out of a mole hill. They have damaged the churches and created tensions between Christians and Muslims also with other Minorities. The BJP and the community in Mangalore has done this road for their own benefit and its a very negligible achievement. The damage done by Bajrang dal and its hindu sponsored outfits cannot be repaired and WE forsee more problems in future if the behaviour does not improve

When others land has been taken for road or any other developments, we are either bothered or support it, if we get share of interests in it or call it development purpose. But when the same happens to one self, then same language turns.

Mannagudda area, opposite to Mangala Stadium and Gandhi Nagar Park area, here the roads are quite broad and well maintained. It is 100% residential area. This area is, one of the model area of Mangalore residential area . Glad that the Car Street is finally broadened.

Wish both side of the road will have foot path. Whenever road broadening takes place, let every body, part their land even though it is painful.

Quite pleased to receive negative comments. With graceful heart I accept it. After all we are one family as Indian. Where there is good understanding there has to be misunderstanding.

I remember Madam Soniaji & her PM saying the same during the recent Bihar elections (i.e, devt of bihar was from central funds etc). What happened after that is  history. How can people forget this so quickly and make similar foolish comments?

Its very nice to see, roads are getting widened. But there are no footpaths in any side any newly constructed roads. Mainly there is no space to make a footpath, and What about rain water???? There are no drainage system to take the rain water out.

Harold D'cunha, Mangalore, India first and foremost you dont have any right to comment about on any community. I think you cannot digest the development works which our present BJP govt and BJP MCC is doing in our city. Like others the GSB community people also have contributed a lot for the development of Mangalore.

D SOUZA, MANGALORE you say that the project was planned by congress 20 years back. If that's the case then shame on congress that they could not work on that project at all. We will come to know how the congress took 5 long years to complete BC road to suratkal four lane project and still its not completed. The credit for this carstreet road should go to BJP state govt, mangalore present city corporation and all the other people who gave their co-operation for the completion of this project

    Hey,Herald D'cunha,Mangalore
What is your problem? What are you trying to tell?Do you have any problem if car stareet is GSB dominated? We are not doing any under world activities or indulged in country liquour business(soro)Our people are hardworking and god fearing and doing business working hard with all sincerity.By and large we are not against any developmental work. What ever is said by you is only illusionery due to jealousy. What is your problem if we are supportive of Jana Sangh/RSS/BJP or for that matter any other Hindu outfit which is a democretic one?Try to feel good experience joy by seeing others welfare/development in the soceity which is devine quality for a man.Car street is not a state high way or National high way like Shiradi ghat road which is under your Madams rule.It is totally local issue and MCC /Local Corporator Mamata Shenoy, and other leaders like Yogish Bhat are to be complemented for the beautiful work.Is that clear my dear Friend.

Harold D'cunha, Mangalore, India when Bharath Lal Meena was transferred the congress corporation was ruling in mangalore, congress govt was in the state and congress govt was in the central. Now when Ponnuraj was transfered you will easily blame BJP govt or district minister for this. So during the transfer Bharat Lal Meena the congress should be blamed as the congress was ruling not BJP. One thing you dont have any right to comment about any community. Like other GSB is one of the community who have contributed a lot for the development of mangalore.

Who was the cause to transfer Barat Laal Meena. Isn't it when he wanted to winden Car Street, the GSB business community got together and one of the cause for his transfer from Mangalore.
Being car street is strong Jansangh/BJP bastion from Independence era, now they have no choice but to oblige.
Money has been sanctioned by the Central UPA govt. and the State govt takes credit.
Due credit should be given to Ex DC Mr. Ponnuraj.

Yes all the top people of BJP like Yogish bhat Ji and other parties have done good job no need to fight each other on this. But frontline work which was very difficult was done by Mr. Ranganath Kini chief whip MCC,whose name is not in the appreciation list. He has lot of future vision about Mangalore and probably best suited and educated future Mayor for Mangalore. Any body can call our earlier DC Mr Ponnuraj and ask about this.

For many, who live in distant towns and countries, Car Street was like a Diaspora Mall. Porches or Porticos of shops and homes in the Car street provided space for Tuluva womenfolk to keep their baskets and sell forest produce, rare seasonal vegetables and unique crafts like Moode Moulds etc.

This supply chain, fulfilling the needs of culinary passion of GSBs was evolved over 400 years as the Car Street evolved within the settlement of GSBs.

This unique Exchange of Local and Migrant Culture has come to an end with the widening of Car Street where we see only shuttered concrete shops without porches or porticos.

The projected growth rate of Karnataka is as follows:-
Survey projects 5.5 percent growth for Karnataka, Thursday, March 04, 2010

Bangalore, March 4(IANS) The gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Karnataka is estimated to be 5.5 percent this fiscal (2009-10) as against 4.5 percent last fiscal (2008-09), the state’s economic survey revealed Thursday.

Is this a growth rate of a fast developing India in the bjp ruled state of Karnataka??? We are seeing only road shows, India shining campaigns, corruption and bundhs/closure.

It is definitely a good work undertaken by present M.C.C. representatives. Road widening is a herculean task. Affected people has to be convinced with Tangible and intangible incentives. Once this emotional aspect is handled properly by the local Political representatives then it will be a cake walk for the concerned authorities to lay the asphalted Road. Where Previous Political representatives failed, the present representatives succeeded in convincing the affected locals. Similarly a crucial stretch was widened near P.V.C. junction on M.G.Road. It is the initiative taken by the Political representatives to be appreciated. Let him be from BJP or Congress. Good work is always appreciable.
