Kasargod, Apr 13: Manjeshwar police have seized 1.39 kg of gold on Tuesday April 12 that was being illegally transported in a car and arrested two persons in this connection.
The arrested have been identified as Patil (45), and Ramachandra (40), both hailing from Maharashtra and residents of Kasargod Pallam.
The police got wind of the gold being illegally transported in a car as they checked vehicles moving towards Mangaluru. The search operation was conducted at 4.15 am on Tuesday by Manjeshwar police inspector Tony J Muttam and sub-inspector Thomas.
On searching the suspected car, the police found a separate shelf in the car that was meant to keep the gold on the sly.
The police recovered three gold lumps - a gold lump weighing 946 gram and two others weighing 93 gram in total.
