Mangaluru, Udupi receive good rains, damage to property, power outage reported

Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 14: Various parts of twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi received rains accompanied by fierce thunder and lightning on the night of Wednesday April 13.

Puttur and Beltangady taluks received most of the rains while Mangaluru city also experienced rain with thunder and lightning. Due to the high velocity wind electricity supply got disrupted in various parts of both districts including Mangaluru city. Bajpe, Kateel, Moodbidri, Surathkal and Mulki also received good rains.

Padubidri, Shirva, Ucchila, Kaup, Katapadi, Udupi, Manipal and part of Kundapur also received heavy rains after 9 pm.

According to the meteorological department the rain will continue for another day or two.

In Venur a coconut tree got burnt due to lightning strike. In Sullia branch of a tree fell on electricity wire. But no damage reported to any person or property.

In Bantwal three houses got affected due to lightning strike at Mani, Manchi and Kukkaje.

In Puttur, due to the sudden rain tarpaulin and aluminium sheets that were placed on the make-shift shops at Sri Mahalingeshwara temple fair were blown off to long distance.

In Vittal many vehicles that were parked near V H Complex parking area were damaged as stones fell from top of the building on them.

    Very true Jossey sir..... i don't know why people disagreed on this right comment...Since last three weeks, nature was giving signals of heavy rain...Still, we are busy in controversial things but were not ready to do something towards maintaining the city during pre monsoon/monsoon...
