M'lore: City to Witness Maiden T20 Int’l Cricket Extravaganza on Feb 25

Mangalore, Feb 5: The first-of-its kind T-20 cricket tournament featuring international cricket players from Australia, New Zealand and England, led by the former New Zealand captain Chris Cairns will be held in the city on Friday February 25.

The Chris Cairns XI will clash against the Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association’s ‘Mangalore Warriors’ for the ‘Chris Cairns Foundation Charity Cricket Cup’ at the New Mangalore Port Trust Cricket Stadium, Panambur.

Speaking at a press meet here on Saturday February 5, Joseph Rego, head of Chris Cairns Foundation and president of Global Sports and Celebrity Management Network, which is hosting the event, announced the same and said that the game will follow the international T20 cricket rules. Tickets for the event are at a reasonable cost and the stadium will wear the festive look with musical and entertainment programmes.

The prestigious trophy is going to be named after its sponsor at a unique unveiling ceremony to be held in the city soon.

Chris Cairns, the flamboyant former Kiwi all-rounder leads a powerful T20 team of cricketers from Australia, New Zealand and England who represent prestigious clubs and counties from across the globe, mentioned Joseph Rego.

This prestigious event featuring international cricket stars is in ignition for what cricket is going to be in the city of Mangalore this year said Dr Srikanth Rai, president, Dakshina Kannada Cricket association which is playing host to the event.

 Trying to inculcate a sense of sporting activity in the children of Dakshina Kannada is my top priority added Dr Rai. The Chris Cairns Foundation would also host a charity fund-raising ball the same evening at 8 am at the Boat club, Sultan Battery, Mangalore in association with the city’s high profile charity organization Mangalore Coastal Round table, which is a charity voluntary association of young men below the age group of 40 with Arjun Pinto as their president.

The highlight of the evening would be a hearing impaired partially deaf child from Mangalore receiving a charity cheque from the Round table towards a Cochlear implant operation. Mumbai’s high profile band’ Bryns’ is being flown down to perform live at the occasion for the Chirs Cairns Cricket team and their distinguished guest. Arjun Pinto, president of Coastal Round Table was also present at  the press meet.
