Bommai asks Cong to open their cupboards to count their graft skeletons

Bengaluru, Apr 16: In an aggressive challenge to the opposition Congress party over its tirade against the alleged corruption in the ruling BJP in the State, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday asked the Congress leaders to open their cupboards and count the skeletons of their corruption scandals were hidden inside.

The Chief Minister spoke to the media representatives before leaving for Vijayapura to participate in the two-day BJP State Executive meet, which was inaugurated by BJP National President JP Nadda at Hosapete, and ridiculed the Congress party’s campaign against corruption as if they were clean and free of the taint of corruption.

“People know their true colours. All these activities will not help them as the people of Karnataka know the Congress party since the last several years. We too will have to expose the corruption scams of the Congress party,’’ Bommai said.

To questions over why a case against anti-corruption act was not registered against former minister KS Eshwarappa after the WhatsApp message from the Belagavi contractor Santhosh Patil before committing suicide in a lodge in Udupi, the Chief Minister said a case for abetment to suicide is under investigation. “The FSL report after the post-mortem report will scientifically establish what happened,’’ he said.

Bommai asserted that the State Government has not interfered in the police investigation and given the police a free hand to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry. “The police are proceeding on the basis the complaint and FIR has been registered. The relevant sections will be applied on the basis of the investigation,’’ he said asking the Congress leaders to allow the investigation to go on and the due process of law will be followed.

He pointed out that in the case of the suicide of DySP Ganapathy during the Siddaramaiah rule, there was a video and suicide note mentioning the then Home Minister KJ George. “But did the FIR mention George’s name? The FIR was registered after the court order and that too following the petition by the family of the deceased. There is no comparison in the two cases,’’ he said.

Apart from JP Nadda, former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, State BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel, National General Secretary CT Ravi, State party in-charge DK Arun, former Chief Ministers Jagadish Shettar, DV Sadananda Gowda and other senior party leaders and ministers participated in the State Executive meeting.
