Spectacular Karate Championship Organized by Western Institute of Technology

Moodbidri, Feb 7: The fifth ‘Western National Open Karate Championship’, a grand spectacle in the bustling town was formally inaugurated by Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, recently.







Three days’ extensive competitions marked culmination on the evening of Saturday February 6. Abhayachandra Jain, MLA presided. He was all praise for the organizers who spoke out conviction that such programme not just in Karnataka but anywhere in India to be organized was a herculean task, and Western Institute of Technology having conducted it on such a large scale in Moodbidri, words failed appreciation he expressed.

Walter Stephan Mendes later honoured all the referees who took part in the Championship of genuinely grandeous nature. Sensei Sandeep Salvi, the only World Karate Federation (WKF) Judge who was the chief referee for the championship praised the event as equal to any international competition. The event was conducted in eight courts simultaneously with over 60 judges/referees and more than 2000 participants for the events from more than 20 states in India.

The championship featured several highlights. It was the first time in the state a Karate competition has been organized as per WKF rules and regulations. A whopping 2,050 participants representing 21 states participated in the event.

There associated were also 60 referees or judges who participated from across India, the judges were rightly acclaimed to be neutral referees. All participants were privileged to receive free training from International Trainers from Tibet and China. The facilities provided at the championship were of exceptional standards, with free food for all participants and visitors on all days and boarding and accommodation of high quality provided for all without charge.

The programme was recorded and telecast live on V4 channel throughout the three days. Western Karate School International was also formally inaugurated during the event. The school will perform as per WKF rules.

The whole programme witnessed the presence of several eminent personalities. Fr Basil Vas , Alangar Parish priest blessed the programme on the opening day. Nalin Kumar Katil, MP, Mangalore exclaimed that Western Institute of Technology had taken Moodbidri to a new height by hosting a Karate Championship at National Level.

Amarnath Shetty, Sadanand Shetty, Wilson Fernandes, Fernandes Group,  Kuldeep M, Aramane , Moodbidri., Vedavyas Udupa, industrialist, Kodethoor.,  Walter Monteiro, Cila Advertisers., Shanti Prasad Hegde, secretary, Moodbidri Bar Association.,  Rathnakar Devadiga, president, Moodbidri Municipality, Krishna Raj Hegde, former president, APMC, Bahubali Prasad, senior advocate, Moodbidri and member of Moodbidri Municipality, Mohandas Prabhu, manager, Corporation Bank, Moodbidri and  Chandrashekar Deekshith, principal, Mahaveera College were thw other prominent personalities present.

All the dignitaries praised Western Institute of Technology for conducting an event of stunning magnitude in Moodbidri. S S Nayak, Charted Accountant, one of the dignitaries praised Western Institute of Technology as not only preparing students for a better future but also builds people-and not just in words but in deeds.

The president of Western Institute of Technology Walter Stephan Mendes remarked that the purpose to promote martial arts is to make students confident, disciplined and prepare them for a better future. He added Western Institute of Technology is offering 6 months Certificate course and 1 year Diploma and Degree in martial arts-Karate and Taekwondo from Indian University. He invited students to take advantage of the course by joining in large numbers.
