Prof. Sudhakar Shetty was my teacher of orthopaedics when I studied at the KMC from 1986 to 1989. He used to be a keen teacher and taught us many advanced techniques. He conducted the yearly CME for KMC students (Both Manipal and Mangalore) and all of his students benefited from it. I last saw him in 2006 March in Chicago at the Annual AAOS conference. I will always remember him as one of my beloved teachers. May his soul rest in peace.

Hard to believe. I remember accompanying Dr Shetty to Mahaveera college, Moodabidri for a blood donation camp in 1990. He was actively involved with blood bank.
I realised that my initial impression about him was wrong after talking to him. He had genuine concern for his patients. He was hard working and had excellent bedside manners/ethics. His medical knowledge was excellent.
I took my brother to him in 1993 to his Buntshostel office. He did not charge his fees because I was a physician.
He also treated my father in law in Unity hospital in the year 2000.

Dr Shetty is one of the rare gems, Mangalorean people have seen.
May his soul rest in eternal peace. Condolances to his wife and children.

Very Sad News and may his soul rest in peace and I pray god to give his family and friends strength to bear this colossal loss. He had treated my grandmother who had broken her thigh  bone at the age of 72 in the year 1984 and made her walk for another 10years untill her death. I was treated couple of times when i broke my ankle  while playing in 1986 and again in 1994 when I met with a targic accident where I had almost lost my right leg. I can feel him every time i stand on both the legs all my life. Dr. Sudhakar Shetty as I know you were quite a agreessive person but, you knew very well what you were doing. The family of Balkatta house, Santhoor will lose you greatly for your yeomen service.  Really it is a shock ..

It is difficult to believe that such a dynamic and jovial person is no more. Some days, early morning he would  be there to see his patients, some days,as late as night eleven he would visit his patients. But any time,he would be fresh and composed, not showing a trace of irritation to his patients or their relatives. I had several personal interactions with him when he treated my mother for a fracture in A J Hospital for over 6 months.Medical field has lost a genuine human being who was in the service of people.

In the sad demise of Prof. Sudhakar Shetty, the Orthopaedic Fraternity of Karnataka State has lost a dedicated teacher, committed surgeon, eminent leader and a good friend. Though I was not fortunate to be his student, he was more than a teacher to me. He was an encouraging force in every endeavour of ours. I have a spent hours together discussing with him the matters related to orthopaedics and non-orthopaedics. On Sunday, just a day prior to his death we met him at his residence when Indian Orthopaedic Association bestowed the ‘Life Time Achievement Award’- indeed a rare honour, he insisted us to have lunch served from his dining table. That was Dr. Sudhakar Shetty, a man- perfection personified.
May his soul rest in peace.
