Dubai: Fr Stany Tauro to be Chief Guest at 'Shirva Porob'

Media Release by Manoj Menezes

Dubai, Feb 8: USWAS, an association of Shirva parishioners residing in the UAE under the leadership of Canute D’souza, is setting the stage for its forthcoming ‘Shirva Porob – 2011’, the venue of which will be the famous Al Masah Ball Room at Sheraton Deira, Dubai, on Friday February 11, from 11 am onwards.

Shirva Our Lady of Health Church parish priest, Fr Stany Tauro, will be specially flown in from Shirva to grace the event in the form of the chief guest.

‘Shirva Porob-2011’ is the annual event of the association, and the proceeds of this event will be used for the project meant to provide assistance towards upgrading post graduation facilities  of  St Mary’s College, Shirva.

Amidst overwhelming response from the parishioners as well as the members of the Konkani community in Dubai, USWAS has planned a fun-filled ‘Shirva Porob – 2011’ replete with variety entertainment.

The event will be compered by Uttam Menezes, a well-known host and compere in the UAE, who is popular for his powerful and multi-lingual interaction skills.

‘Shirva Porob – 2011’ will have lots of fun games, spot prizes and dances from local talents.  The main attraction of the event will be a short comedy play, ‘Valchibaajecho Maatov’ from Shirva’s well-known troupe of comedians, 'Boscambegar’. They are all set to do everything within their command to tickle the audience with their comedy skills and punch lines.

Multi-talented artiste, Merwyn Aranha from Shirva, who is a specialist at donning female roles, having done so successfully in several plays, is already in town, having been flown in from Shirva especially for this occasion. He will be acting in the comedy play, perform dances, and present a special item number, during which he will be changing the saris seven times.

The ‘Rising Star of Shirva’, Prashanth Sequeira, will be presenting songs from his hit album ‘Yo Moga’, which was released last year.  It would be pleasing to hear the new voice of an upcoming talent.

Well-known band, ‘Sweet Melodies’ of Dubai, under the leadership of Arun Carlo, along with other musicians,  are all set  to provide live musical entertainment at ‘Shirva Porob - 2011’.  Arun Carlo has rendered music for Konkani CDs like Zala Love, Mogachin Lahran etc., and is widely recognized and hailed for his rich musical talent, both in Dubai and Mangalore.

Canute Mathias, the ‘Voice of Shirva’ is also set to perform some sensational hit numbers during the above event, along with Prashanth, ‘Male Voice of Shirva’ finalist, Sandeep Saldanha, Loyal Pinto, Sheela Carlo, and Joy Almeida.

Apart from Konkani songs, they will also be performing some of the hit Kannada and Eastern (Hindi) songs to add variety to the musical entertainment.

A lavish buffet dinner will be served on the day. Entertainment with music, dances, and spot games, will fill your day with enjoyment.

USWAS, which came into existence at the fag end of December 2002, and has over 200 members at present, is driven with the motto, ‘Lend a hand not for self, but for each other’. It has been providing financial assistance to the needy for various purposes like education of the financially backward children, medical aid, house construction, marriages of members belonging to poor families, and such other purposes of the community of Shirva and surrounding regions efficiently, with generous help from its sponsors and well-wishers.

On the family front, Shirva Fest is the only feast where relatives and friends come together. So let us unite once again and participate enthusiastically in the 'Shirva Porob - 2011’ event, which is backed by a noble cause.

Managing committee of USWAS is extending a warm welcome to all the parishioners, well-wishers and friends through this forum for this event.  Limited invitations are available, which may be obtained from the following persons or any of the committee members of USWAS.  Invitations will not be available at the venue.

I am extremely happy to see such zeal among the Parishioners of Shirva Church taking great interest to help young people on the educational front. This is a great cause deserving full support. I knew one of the early Pastors of this Parish of name and fame... Father Gonsalves.

I am glad that the function in Dubai will be graced by Father Stan Tauro who I have known for the past several decades. I knew him as a young junior priest at Milagris Church, Mangalore. Thereafter he was transferred to Manipal as a Parish Priest and I had the pleasure receiving him along Father Peter Noronha and others at Father Muller's Hospital, Mangalore where I had served on The Governing Board for a number of years. Father Stany was then transferred to other Parishes until he came to The Rosario Cathedral and held the prestigious position as Pastor of The Cathedral. Again Father Stany was back at Father Muller's Hospital as administrator of The Homeopathy Division and later as The Administrator of The Hospital.

It was sad to see Father Stany going on re-location from The Hospital to Shirva. His popularity at Father Muller's was evidenced by the number of people who accompanied him (including me) to the new assigned Parish at Shirva.

Father Stany - Wherever you go good wishes from your friends including me go with you. May your mission be blessed.

    Joe Gonsalves
